I am hunting for a new folder. looking to keep the blade at 4 inches or less. Have around $80 to burn.....
Any suggestions on which to get and from where?

That doesn't narrow things down much.

Slipjoint? Locking? If "locking", what kind of lock? What do want to do with it? etc etc etc

Locking for sure, type, I dont mind. As a backup to a fixed blade woods knife. Looking at the Para2 but its outta my budget for now.

A Cold Steel Recon 1 would be a good starting point.

Benchmade 530
Benchmade Griptilian
Benchmade Mini-Griptilian
Benchmade Presidio Ultra

Buck Vantage Force Pro

Cold Steel Espada G-10 M
Cold Steel Recon 1

Kershaw Blur S30V
Kershaw JYD 2.2
Kershaw Rake

Spyderco Harpy
Spyderco Manix 2
Spyderco Police
Spyderco Stretch

If you want to go low-budget, nice quality...I'm pretty partial to the Kabar Dozier Folding Hunter series.

If you look around there are a few places on-line that have the Para 2 for just a little more money, I would spend the extra $15 or so and get the Para 2 if that's what you really want.

Kershaw JYD 2. practically indestructible. 55 bucks shipped from kershawguy here on the forum. DO IT NOW!!

Spyderco Manix 2 is one of the best deals you can get at that price.

Hunt the forum for a para 2. I have seen them almost mint go for around $80.

Manix 2 would be my next choice.

How about a Cold Steel American Lawman or Recon 1. Spyderco Manix 2 or Endura. Buck Vantage Pro. There are several from Kershaw and Benchmade too. Good Luck! Kevin :D

Lots of great knives already mentioned in the $50-80 price range. Rather than just repeating those, I'll toss another possibility out there: since you're mainly looking at it as a backup/complement to your fixed blade rather than a primary knife, you might get something less expensive (but still good quality). For $30 or less, you could get one of the following, all of which are superb knives for the price: Ontario RAT 1, Spyderco Tenacious, Byrd Cara Cara 2, or Kershaw Nerve.

If you were think of the Para 2, I STRONGLY recommend considering the Stretch 2. It has a very similar blade length with a lot of belly like the Para 2, with a small choil and lots of edge. It has arguably better ergonomics (IMO the Stretch has the best ergo's out there period), and is overall a very high quality and well-made knife, with tight lockup and smooth action, and is perfect for outdoors, hunting/dressing animals, self defense, etc.

You can get it in VG-10 for about $70

I'd go with the FRN FFG Spyderco endura/delica or a Kershaw JYD ii with a composite blade.

Al Mar ultralight series. I just got an Eagle in brown micarta, and love it. Slim, very lightweight, 4" blade, very sturdy despite its lack of metal liners (don't need 'em!). You can find one (or a Falcon, or a Hawk, each slightly smaller than the last) in your price range, if you look around.

Thanks for the suggestions guys! I have a RAT1, a Vantage Pro already. I love the RAT1 for what it offers for the price. I heard there is a IZULA folder in the works? Any idea when it will be out?

I wouldn't recommend trying to wait for the Izula folder -- I haven't seen any indication of when it'll be released, so my guess is that it'll be a while.
