Well, since there is yet to be a Busse folder, I just received this bad boy. It's a Rick Hinderer XM-18 (for those of you that don't know;) ) Man, this thing is BAD-A$$! I've been looking for one a for a while, since Rick is not taking any more orders at this time. Lately, they've been hard to come by, but an awesome forumite here on BF hooked me up.

As far as I know, everything on these knives are made in house by Rick, including the screws, clip, scales, and heavy duty pivot. This particular knife sports a 3.5 inch spanto blade, green G-10 scale over titanium, and has the flipper feature. Lock up is like a tank!! It screams use, and Rick loves to see his knives being used.

It's funny, I have no problem using high-end, high-priced knives (this one, and some Busses ), but I can't seem to use a little Canal Street ring-turn knife. :p Maybe it's because I know they were designed for use and can take whatever you throw at them.

Enjoy the pics. :)

It'll DO until the BUSSE FOLDER makes its debut!!! Love your GREEN flipper!!!

Here's the folder version with a Firetac Extreme (w/ 8-Ball anodized Ti finish :D)

Looks like a nice stout folder. :) How thick is the blade?

These are the specs of the XM-18

Overall length open : 8.24 inches
Length closed : 4.72 inches
Blade length : 3.5 inches
Cutting edge length : 3.16 inches
Blade thickness : .165 inches
Handle thickness : .515 inches
Blade length of either 3 in or 3 1/2 in

Straight from his website! :D

Thanks guys. Love those knives with the 8-Ball finish!

Leatherman, Jaxx hit it on spot. I just mic'd mine out at .166 inches thick.

Still waiting on mine from Rick. It's been over 6 months. I got the tumbled finish with blue/black G10.

I have the exact same configuration. Except mine is all scuffed up to hell. I really put it to the test a few weeks ago and even had rust on it on the end. I love this folder and have it clipped to my ACUs for duty day.

I'm not sure how much influence Rick had on the Kershaw Zero Tolerance knives (which were also brought up recently), but if you look closely you'll see his lock-bar-stabilizer on the framelock slab, and his grippy CNC milling design on the G-10 slab. His work is phenomenal and it's good to see him getting recognized. I have a limited edition kerambit, the oh-so-perfect Firetac, and a tiny little thing about 2 inches long that has just as nice fit and finish as any knife you've ever seen.

I'm next in line on the passaround, can't wait. The XM-18 and an Airkat TORK-NVTR are the only folders I've seen that might put Jerry to task.

How come the the handle spacer on the far left (last picture) seems out of alignment? Just a question, I love those knives and am probably going to start a very serious quest to get one. Thanks for posting the pics.

I also have one and they are the bees' knees. I have yet to really put it through its paces, but I am certain that it is up to the task.

Just the angle. :D

Can you take apart the XM - 18 to be cleaned? What type of blade steel is it? i can not seem to find that on his website. How does it compare to a Sebenza? :)

You can take them apart. I haven't yet though. You can also order different color scales and swap them out if you want. I like the green I have, but the orange is tempting. :D

Rick was using S30V on the XM-18's, but has since changed to Duratech 20CV. Nice stuff as far as I can tell.

Compared to a Sebenza? Hmm, I would put them in 2 different classes, both with strengths and weaknesses. My sebenza is more of a slicer, with a thinner hollow ground blade, whereas the XM has a thicker blade and different shape. Both lockup like a vault. The sebenza does have a bushing, which I like, but the XM is as smooth as can be also. I have both, and I wouldn't trade either of them. :D

The sebenza is way easier to come by and attain. Getting a XM is a long wait, but well worth it!
