New folder~ XM-18

How does it compare to a Sebenza? :)

Clone, this is slightly apples to oranges. The Sebenza is the perfect folding knife. Perfect. Perfect because it'll perform better than 95% on (probably) every task folding knives can be realistically capable of performing. The XM-18 is a virtually perfect combat folder. It won't do cheese and sausage and other picnic/camping chores as well as the high hollow ground .125 thick sebenza blade, but it'll perform 100% on chores that you'd be fearful of asking the sebenza to perform, and it'll do things you wouldn't normally or reasonably assume a folder capable of.

MSRPs are fairly similar, although used XM-18s will go for right at MSRP and used sebenzas will go for $100-$200 under MSRP. So you need to figure out if you need something that is better than a SAK or something that is arguably and/or marginally better than a Strider SMF. Do you want Perfect, or perfectly Bad-A$$!

I have both large and small Sebenzas, and they get carried about 50% of the time. The other 50% is made up of Strider, Hinderer, Draper, Microtech and MOD, all of which are better than the Sebenza in some regards, but fall significantly short of the Sebenza in everyday soccermomboring life.

JWBirch, thank you for making those points. I think i will need to get both. A Sebenza and the hopefully a xm-18 (that is if i can find one). I had a small Sebenza but sold it :( .

thats an awesome knife MD13, i really like the style. Congrats!

I'm going to need to check out these sebenzas i hear so much about :D

Rick just informed me my XM-18 will be done in a week and a half! I am fluggin stoked!

I picked up a Cranberry scale flipper the other day, nice, well build folder. Hopefully Busse will come out with a folder sometime. :D

Nice!

I think I heard the Busse folder should be done in about 2 weeks............ :p

2 questions:
1. how do you like the flipper? it certainly useful as a finger quard and you probably use it for opening the knife - but for detailed work, when you choke up the blade and use forward choil it might get on the way.
2. do Rick make XM-style folders just tad longer 4-5"?

1. The flipper is awesome. It's made to be an assisted opening device, and it works beatifully. It doubles as a guard, and is very comfortable on the knife. It doesn't interfere at all when choking up either. In fact, for me, it's very helpful. When choking up, i've been using the flipper as a kind of 'trigger' by putting my finger against it like on a firearm trigger. It keeps my finger from sliding up toward the edge of the blade. Extremely well laid out by Rick.

2. I believe Rick will make just about any adjustments you could ask for. You'd have top contact him directly and ask though, just to make sure. :D

Nice pick! Make sure to post pictures when you get it!

I've been using the passaround a bit. It was more dependable and better built than my chopsaw today.:grumpy:
This thing is a tank and a nice all around design.

I like the orange slab on that. I'm thinking of ordering that or the toxic green for mine.

Hmm, I thought DeWalt made pretty good tools. I'd still agree that the knife is probably built better though. :p

I think Toxic Green would look great on this knife.
Dewalt is great in general, but their Miter Saws are really starting to go downhill.
