I had an '88 F150 that all I ever did on it was regular maint. brakes, and one radiator. It never stranded me and did a ton of off road miles. It had the straight six and a granny low stick, so its big advantage was being able to go slow and not have to wind it up and slam through tough spots. I always knew I had to drive it to work on monday, so I treated it easy off road. We gave it to our pastor at church, and it's still running perfectly fine. The body looks like .... and the ac died five or six years ago, but if I could buy another one like it, I would in a heart beat. Ford don't make them like that any more.
If I want to thrash my own personal truck off road, no complaints if any thing falls off of it, if I had a work crew that was knocking body parts off, seems like they need to learn a little more respect for company property. It may be worth the bottom line to save time and pay for the vehicle damage, but on principal they may be a little rougher than necessary.
I appeciate the info though. I like to keep an eye out for possible problem spots on my own pick up. When I saw my first Cummins, I figured someday I'd have one. When I finally was in the market for a diesel, I went to the Ford dealer first, but I ended up with the Chevy. After looking at it carefully, I just made sure I got it at the end of last year to edge out the new emissions nonsense.
Thanks for letting me ramble, Craig
