New forum change

The forum software looks like the same basic application as another forum I frequent that needed to upgrade, due to growth and bandwidth issues. Took me a few minutes to find things too!

I would guess the change was a result of some issues that needed to be dealt with.

Like any other software, VBulletin creates new versions that eventually make old ones obsolete. I have a busy forum that we are about to have to migrate to this version from the one like we had here previously. We've been hesitant to make the change because, like many of you mention, change can be somewhat painful. But, unfortunately, these software makers won't let you run their product indefinitely. It cuts into their revenue stream. They want you to upgrade.

With that, this version should be better, if logic prevails. Time will tell. Unfortunately, there is little we can do about it if it is not better. Grin and bear it, I reckon.

Well I didn't particularly care for the old format, as compared to others I frequent. Havn't been on enough since the change but it'll be fine.

I'm slowly warming up to the new format, although I would've been perfectly content to keep it as it was. I'm experiencing a double-whammy dose of 'coerced adaptation'. Just a few days before this 'new' forum came online, my (old) computer crashed, after about 8-9 years of relatively faithful service. It was due for retirement, I think. Bought a new one, which is nice, but I've been pulling a little hair out getting it set up and streamlined with some of my old applications & files. So, it's all sort of unfamiliar to me lately.

Today I had to try six times to load BladeForums using two different methods before I could get on here?? DM

My understanding is that the old software was no longer going to be supported, so the change was more or less forced. The old format was great and I liked it a lot, but what are you going to do?

The new one is not so bad, you get used to it pretty quickly. There are bigger print options for those that want them, just look at the bottom left of the page and pull down the list.
