Today was a great day. My new lighter Foxy's Folly arrived! It is a great effort. First thing I did was to take it out to the porch and slap it, (flat sided) on the porch rails. Strong slaps, no problem. The butt plate did rotate on the handle a little. I twisted it back into allignment and tightened the plate up with some peening of the tang end. This broke off some little sections of the wood. I will fix this up when I put the V groove in at the plate/handle juncture.
The dimensions are as follows:
28 oz.
OAL is 21 9/16ths
Blade is 16 15/16ths
Handle and Bolster is 5"
Narrowist point of blade is 1.540
Widest point of blade is 3.260
Thickest point of blade at bolster is .300
It then thins to .250 out to above the sweet spot
Past the sweet spot it is .200
Towards the tip it is about .150
Very nice job of distal taper!
I am very happy with this khuk although I think it is longer than intended by several inches, which is good by me also. I like long blades.
I feel that with this blade coming in at over 21 1/2 inches, 28 oz is a darn good weight. If it was the length we thought it would be I am sure this blade would be spot on weight wise also. Get the length right and the weight will follow. For me, I am perfectly happy having this FF be about the same length as my first FF, only about 1/2 the weight. My first FF is 52 oz!!! I will take some side by side shots this weekend if the weather permits. Very pretty wood on the handle also.
All in all I AM HAPPY!!
