New Foxy's Folly Arrives

Oh well.....don't blame the kamis on this one.

They did a heckuva job!

You are right on that note Dan. This is an awesome khuk. I am the exact opposite of dissapointed!! I am darn glad I jumped when I did. This FF has everything I had hoped the first would have.
After choping up some seasoned oak in the backyard. Beating it with reckless abandon. Not a ripple or distortion on the edge area. Totally unscathed! Maybe if I am real lucky someone will cancel out of theirs and I will get a short thin version also.
Yangdu, Yvsa, Dan, and all involved in this project. THANKS  This is all I could have hoped to luck into. Lucky Me!

I think Foxy would keel over if he saw these beauties!

You know, when ArchAngel listed the specs, I thought to myself, "Self, aint that there more bigger than they wanted?" Then, I looked at it and thought, "Damn, but aint that just the prettiest thing?"

I am truly envious and happy for you ArchAngel! :)

Well yes indeed boys and girls Foxy is doing the war hoop on these new Foxy's Folly's I would probably trade my original prototype by Bura for one of these light er versions that are made correctly

LOL.....

actually, it's kinda :( :(

I have a crushing headache right now....

If either of you is disappointed, I will gladly set the matter straight. email me off list if necessary.

This is indeed hilarious.....they got the right weight/length ratio, but made the full size. I'm going to guess that somewhere along the line, Yangdu (and perhaps me) got mixed up about it.

Oh well.....don't blame the kamis on this one.

They did a heckuva job!

If they can keep them that light with the old school length, I'm gonna be ecstatic with whatever the kamis send me. :)

Very great snag, Arch. If I had been on early enough and had known the lengths of these I would have gone for one. I definitely can't wait to see the final FFs.

:D :D :D :D

Little bit of confusion, but YEAH BURA!!!!!

My favorite khuk I no longer own is an 18" AK by Bura, nice and skinny. This looks like that, only more so! Nice handles, and the blades side by side make you really appreciate Bura's work. Back when Bill had his 2-for-1 BAS special, I ordered a pair. The first one was great. The second, by Bura, was AWESOME.

Archangel - what is the balance like? Original FF is very blade heavy, this one looks like it probably still is, but manageably so.

This is so beautiful I don't know whether to cry or drool. Off to do both.

Dan Koster/Yvsa,

Did you specify tolerances on the weight spec, or just 24 oz. max? Assuming the scales make it to Yangdu in time, then to BirGorkha they should be able to measure to the oz with either scale, but especially with the electronic one.

But I wouldn't ask the Kamis to make each Foxy Folly 24 oz. exactly. Is 22-24 ozs OK? or 23 to 25 ozs? The 2 oz spread should be manageable I would think. And oh well, any that don't make the specs can still be sold as you did these I am sure.

I am totally worried. I was supposed to get my 28 ox. FF today along with a bunch of other knives I bought from Yangdu on Monday. (I have been waiting for UBBB's for a while and went overboard this week!)

Anyway, Yangdu sent them out Monday, and they should have been here yesterday, but did not arrive again today. Packages from Reno ALWAYS arrive in 2 days. The postman is in the habit of leaving HI packages on my porch at around 3:15 p.m. My daughter swore to me that she would be home at 3:30 at her regular time to bring in the packages. I even called yesterday to remind her. Instead she blew me off as usual (when it really counts) and went over to a friends house. I was the first one home at 7 pm: no package.

There was a stag malla in there, and a chandan siru, and a couple of other things as well as this special FF. I have a sick feeling about this...

I wanted to post pics tonight, but will try and check with the PO in the morning.

Regards,

Norm

I'm really regreting not having the cash for the " heavy " right now,
It looks great, if there are any body who regrets the sign up Let me know.
I gotta have one now.....

Great report on a beauty... can't wait for the smaller ones!

That 28 oz. reminds me of my M-43 (29 oz.) but FF is sooo prettier.

Norm, box'll come today. Reno to Florida always used to be 2 days... now it's sometimes 2 days, sometimes a week. And always HI shipped it the same day, it's postmarked.

Tohatchi, drool is definintely called for. Man. When will the rest arrive? Yet another reason for smoke...

Hdw, these are the original specs...

special pre-paid run of the Foxy Folly in a 17" length with a 4-1/2" long handle from top of angle on bolster to bottom of buttcap, standard karda and chakma, wood handles, steel mounted, no habaki bolsters, no cho creep, 24 to 28 ounces in weight, and fat convexed edges, and well oiled before shipment,

When the first tow 17" prototypes came in they were overweight.
The one I got is 31 ounces. We decided that 28 ounces was to heavy so set it up at 24 ounces max.
We also set the length back to 16-1/2" in order to help the kamis get the weight correct easier and then Bura comes in with this one. :grumpy:
A little lighter will be fine. Everyone has too have a little tolerance.:D
I'm really looking forward to the 16-1/2" models coming in!!!!
That is if the damn kamis can get them right.:grumpy:  ;)

Nothing today, although a package sent Tuesday arrived Thursday, and one sent Wed. arriived today. It's the Monday one I'm worried about. Unfortunately no delivery confirmation on this one, but Yangdu did get full insurance, which I don't care about. Five grand would not make up for the loss of this shipment.

I am including $2 in every future order and asking Yangdu to add the delivery confirm (about .50¢), just in case. Insured requires a signature, but that doesn't do any good if it doesn't get here. Keeping my fingers crossed, as it is going to be at least 3 days late...

If it fails to arrive I will post a final message and leave all my khuks to you guys before I cut my throat with one of them!

(Just joking! Really, I would probably just slice my wrists with a kumar karda.)

Svashtar,

I did have one shipment from HI that didn't arrive for 7 to 8 days. I e-mailed UB after 4 working days. The postal service is right on 90+% of the time but for some reason that one took its time. Maybe its that new homeland security screening they're not telling us about.:D

Anyway I finally did get it in fine shape.

I hope the scales I sent Yangdu fall within the 90+% delivery times, or there might be more Foxy Follies outside spec.

Norm,
I hope that all of your blades arrive this AM. Then we can see and hear what your FF looks and feels like. :) I am interested in how broad a differance there is in these khuks. Yvsa's is 17" or so and 31oz. Mine is about 21 9/16" and 28oz.
I feel lucky that for some reason, largish overspec. blades find their way to me! :D In general I am drawn to the large, beefy blades and that is what seems to find it's way to me.
Uncle Bill was right when he said that the right blade will find the owner best suited for it. Many would not have liked this over length/weight FF. For me it is a wonderful find! I can't wait to hear about yours Norm!!

Thanks, and the package DID arrive today; my postman tracked it down. It should have arrived on Wednesday. It was a little the worse for wear, but everything is intact. Whew! Thanks to everyone for listening to me gripe; I was just really paranoid for some reason, especially when I read over on the Knife Exchange about a guy sending his ultra expensive bowie out for work on 2/25 from NEVADA and has never seen it again. Evidently the PO has a problem at one of their sub-stations with theft. I was about to write to this guy to find out more when the doorbell rang, and what a relief!

I took pics and will post a more detailed thread soon.

Regards,

Norm

That is awesome news Norm. I can't wait to see yours. I spent some time today trying to catch the beauty of mine. As a photographer I SACK!! But here are a few better shots of my new love! ;)
