New Friend for the New Year

Daisy's new country life is cozy ... and after the fur trim, a nice warm blanket in the early morning chill is as welcome as radiated heat from the wood stove along her back. Dogs love comfort, and they radiate comfort to us - much as a nice, long-burning log on a fire can do on a frigid morning :)

Update on the adventures of my new friend:

Harness, collar, leash, poop bags ... check, check - and we are ready to head to the dog park. Daisy gets overly enthusiastic when she sees dogs out and about ... so we've spent almost every day in March so far playing 'with others' in town, working on and off leash ... checking out the noise and bright lights of the 'big city' (well, Daisy finds even this small town very interesting )

Daisy is one long-legged girl. Her head is just shy of the roof when she is sitting in the vehicle. Because I need to protect my 'new to me' car seats from my 'new to me' dog, every inch is covered inside, front and back, with durable waterproof fabric seat covers. A storage box and blankets are used to extend the sleeping space of the front passenger seat - even then, her long legs stretch out over the shift console.

Three Amigos Dog Park: Large dogs through the gate to the left, small dogs to the right ... and there's the poop disposal box of course. On this morning we have arrived early. This is one busy facility all day long and Daisy loves to play here!

Savannah is glad Daisy is having a good time and listened to the story before going back into the “relaxing on the sofa that I’m not allowed to go on mode!”

Thanks drj211 and Savannah. “relaxing on the sofa that I’m not allowed to go on mode!” = dog code for doing what comes naturally ... translation by D

Snow was fine, ice was 'death defying' ... but the current mud that whiffs like a springtime barnyard - yowsa! I run Daisy through the spring meltwater here on the property until her 'socks' are white again!

And as for "pampered pooch", check out that Savannah - just sayin' ...:D

You paint a COMPLETE picture!
Well, there appear to be different types of pampering: run of the house, run of the car, or both.:D

Saw a new one today: taking a long walk up a steep incline we notice a couple pushing their baby carriage uphill (at least .5 mile). As we close the gap and get a better peek we are both thinking "poor baby" not much in the looks department. As we pass, we see it is the fattest, most overstuffed pekingese being "walked" in a baby carriage. Tried to get a snap but not possible...very difficult not to laugh out loud!

Obesity in dogs is not pampering, it's animal.abuse.

Don’t believe I described this dog as pampered—just a new one on me. I don’t know the reasons for the stroller: maybe a broken leg or illness. I stated an erroneous humorous to me assumption on my part that it would be a child —in case you missed my drift.

... and I was thinking "what a great aerobic" on a steep incline!

Candy, my antique spaniel, loved the walks along the river here ... but did enjoy hitching a lift when she grew weary as she became more frail. Hence the 'ride' was named the Candy Cab. Kelsi was a graying rescue three times returned to the shelter before she found us. She fit in like the proverbial 'dirty shirt on washday' :) ... very old pic ... walking stick still with me always even now ... as are the happy memories of these treasured companions.

Today a new dog companion joins my life, and I want to share the joy here on BF. Yes, her name is also Daisy. 2020 saw the loss of both my elder girls, first Daisy and then Desta ... and now I am beyond happy to open my home to this sweet Daisy-girl. Isn't it wonderful to see her relaxed in new surroundings ...

Looks really cool. Sorry for the loss, congratulations on your newly found love

Thank you ... especially as our 31st successive day attending at the Three Amigos Dog Park is celebrated!

Update:
Now, as much as Daisy's manners are so unexpectedly perfect in the home and while walking along our country road without distraction, I did understate her excitement when she spied other dogs from her perch on the passenger seat of the suv:

In the vehicle, she has turned on the overhead light, the radio and the wipers; disengaged the window controls for all passenger seats; shifted gears from automatic to manual twice and into neutral once while I was driving. Hence my commitment to work with Daisy on her social skills when out and about in 'society'. Did I mention the barking, lunging at the windows? Yikes - you get the picture.

I cannot thank the kindness of dogs and their companions enough for their generous understanding of my sweet girl, who just wants her own society of friends to play with ... but who just did not quite know how to go about it - because she sure has a ball at the dog park now :D and behaves well ... still a few quirks in the relationship but I am improving ;)

Update: Pics and clip from yesterday's outing.

Daisy is one joyous companion. 72 trips to the dog park - with gratifying results. Oh, happy dog days!

Stay cool, stay safe ... all

... more adventures in celebration of Canada Day ... Daisy's first camp trip with me. She's in 'like a dirty shirt on washday' with splashing, thundering over the forest turf, guarding the camp from raccoons and napping in the wild. This was just a couple of overnights not far from home at Teapot Lake, located on one of the capillary forest access roads in the area. This was a dry run to check out the car-camp gear for our upcoming roadtrip. Good thing we checked! The regulator on my ancient propane stove was malfunctioning so morning coffee and meals came by way of my emberlit twig stove. Loved using it and thankful for having the backup.

We're feeling free already as we pass this sign. Share the road ... meeting a logging truck oncoming is possible. Road Closed. Daisy rides shotgun. Certainly, just because this sign flashes, does not mean we don't push on  and indeed, the trail closure was visible from our turnoff onto a secondary route much further in.

Gently sloping, private, entire north 'pond' all to ourselves - wow! Did we luck into one perfect camp site. It is first come first served in these unregulated areas.
