Here is a new model just in from Sanu. He calls this khukuri a "Ghopte" which if my memory serves me correctly (doubtful!) means hunchback in Nepali.

It is 18 inches from tip to buttcap straight across, blade is about 2&1/8 wide, and almost 7/16 thick. Weighs almost two pounds. Handle is beautifully done saatisal. What can I say about it more than it is a 10/10 effort by Sanu. Fit, finish, hardness all near perfect.

Karda and chakma a bit small for Sanu but very good quality.

Scabbard is very well made and tooled by sarki with no name. Frog is 100 year HI superfrog.

We will try to get this one to you in time for Christmas for $150 delivered to your door. Sanu sent two so that is what I have available.

Call or email if interested.

Nice!!! But I have my baby GRS which is comparable....

It would be interesting to compare the Ghopte and the baby GRS for handling and performance....

I'll pass on this khukuri for the time being...

Thats a great looking khukuri. I like the forward curve and the length and weight would seem to be a good match for all around.

WOO HOO!!!

This really reminds me of a 40's vintage M43 khukuri. I cant wait to see if it handles the same, though I suspect it will have a little more "oomph" in the chop as the blade is just a tad thicker.

Maybe Sanu should consider renaming it the "WWII MkII" khukuri? Hehehehe...

Cheers for now,

Gary B in the PNW.

That's a really pretty khuk. I love the lines of these style forward curving blades. A slightly curved handle would make it even nicer.
Uncle Bill, do you think we could make this a standard HI offering? I'd deffinately buy one and I think there are others interested as well.

The M43 is fantastic looking. If you have one, send us specs and sketches so a wood template can be made.

Here's a Baby GRS for comparrison.
And if I had to choose it would be as bad as trying to choose any that John Powell has.
And the pix prove (as if it needed proveing

) what Uncle Bill has been saying all along about Sanu catching up with Bura.

I wonder if Sanu will be the next BirGhorka foreman when Bura retires if he ever does.

I do know that I am very well pleased with my Sanu made YCS, but I have said that already haven't I?

Here's a neat khukuri made by Bura that just came in -- Baby Ganga Ram. It is 16 inches overall, 2 & 3/8 wide, 7/16 thick and weighs 1 & 3/4 pounds.

This is a Bura made khukuri, karda and chakma, so what more needs to be said about it. (snip)</font>

Harry you may be like me and will probably need the new one to go with your Baby GRS.

And this will save me explaining that this was a double post.

This is also a very good example of the improvement in the frogs and scabbards as well I think. I believe the Sarki With No Name has finally hit his stride!!!

And I Really Need a Spell Checker tonight!!!!
Dayumed tpyos anyway.

What I like most about this knife is that it has fewer degrees of arc than the knife that Bura made several months ago.
Dan

Post Script: It would be nice if one of you computechs could put them up together.

OK Rusty, I will use John's template to take some measurements and post them tomorrow. Terry Sisco has pics of two of my M43s on his webpage:

http://www.geocities.com/t_sarki/Sarki_Shop.html

BTW, I think this latest Sanu masterpiece has a little more drop at the tip than the M43 has. When I have had chance to play with the "hunchback" I will post again comparing the two...

Best,

Gary B.

John Powell, can you tell us about the models used in the Burmese theatre of WWII? Like the ( Merrill's Marauder's ) M43?

I saw pictures of one in a knife mag and fell in love with the OAL 18" full arc from butt to tip. The butt on it and others from that area in early 20th century seem smaller than those on the HI's which flair much more.

I apologise to Yvsa, but the M43 is a sexier green-eyed redhead ( to me ) over the YCS blue-eyed blond. Or a brown-eyed brunnette. Or raven tressed... you get the idea.
