New from Sanu and in time for Christmas -- the "Ghopte" khukuri.

Bura's is on top, Sanu's on bottom. I have Bura's version, which chops like crazy but is more radical in appearance than Sanu's new effort. It would be interesting to compare the performance of the two.

Gary_B, those pics on Terri's site are indeed the type I lust to posess. Yvsa, bro, what think you of the pics there?

:
Well Rusty Bro if Sanu had of made the YCS exactly like the wood prototype it would have been even sexier as I had about 3/8" more curve in the handle.

My 1943 WW II has about 3/4" more drop on the blade and about 3/8" more drop on the handle than my YCS and I think its shape is sexier than the YCS as well.
An interesting aside the WW II model is only about 1" longer than the YCS and its handle is shorter by about 1" and yet it is quite a bit heavier than the YCS.
And that lightness is one of the things that makes the YCS more sexy to me. It has moves the old WW II could never duplicate.

And like I have said before the kamis went to the straight handles because they're a whole lot easier to make and fit.
Perhaps after I get the HI Tomahawk prototype made I will get around to doing the Tin Chiarra based on the very beautiful model that John Powell has.
Then maybe with Uncle Bill's influence we can get a more exact steel khukuri made from the prototype.

Whatever made you think you were *SUPPOSED* to have any, Unc?

PS: I don't know who *IS* supposed to be in charge, but past experience has made me highly suspicious that it is *NOT* me.

Does anyone else have a problem with tryng to see Terry's Website?
When I click it on the page seems to either be too big for the screen or too far to the right.
I can only see the front part of his address.

... It's heeeeere...

Very nice khuk! Sanu has outdone himself yet again: the temper is good, it feels quite agile in the hand (for an almost 2 lb blade), and the fit and finish is top notch. I think this will make a pretty decent bush knife, it has enouph oomph to chop, enough belly for skinning and cleaning fish, and enough finesse for finer tasks. I can't wait to take it out in the woods to see how it performs for real. Uncle you were right in giving it a 10/10.

Expect to see a more detailed review from me early in the new year. I think Sanu could have a real winner here...

Take care,

Gary_B in the PNW.

What I hope he thinks is that he's been having a major positive impact. There's no denying that the quality of the knives coming out of Bir Gorkha has noticeably improved during Bura's tenure as shop foreman. The best managers I know are the ones who want honors for the people they manage. Nobody is dumb enough to think that all the credit goes to Bura, but I can't help but seeing the great khukuris being produced by all the kamis as anything but a positive reflection on Bura (as well as on Gelbu, Pala, Uncle Bill and everybody). Bura ought to take the (frequent!) observation that HI khukuris keep getting better and better as a personal compliment, because it is.

And besides, although each of the kamis displays his own style, nobody thinks there's anything wrong with Bura's.

Sanu is indeed doing very fine work! But I haven't seen anyone come close to the beauty and grace of the blade of my Kothimoda. It is absolute poetry. Poetry with spirit. I don't think a finer blade could be made.
