New G10 Griptilian or 940 Osborne

One thing I'm not looking forward to though is sharpening it .
I'll try to maintain its edge "if" and when it starts needing some love I'll just hit it with some green and black compound to see how it responds on the leather strop.
Other wise I pull out the heavy artillery lol and put it on the edge pro .

I have a wicked edge and so long as you do regular maintenance on it, it's been easy to keep up. For a touch up I'll usually start with the 800/1000 then work my way up to .5 strop. Way sharper than it needs to be? Maybe. But cutting through cardboard or drain tile like butter is kind of nice.

I don't think a knife could ever be to sharp . One thing I can't tolerate is a dull knife it drives me nuts lol .

The 940 couldn't shake the BM 550 out of my pocket so off it went. The 940 is cool though.

I had a 551-1 and while I really liked the knife, I sold it. It's a big improvement over the 551 (doesn't sound plastic-y) and feels great in the hand. It was still a little too chunky for me to carry in my pocket. The 940 is very slim and carries great. I would recommend spending a little more and getting a 940-1501. G10 handle and CPM-20CV steel and comes in under your budget by 5 cents :P.

Either would be great. I think the 551-1 would be better for more "hard use" because it fills the hand better and would be more ergonomic during hard cutting (not that the 940 isn't as strong, it just has a thinner handle). But I prefer the 940 (especially the 940-1501, which is what I'm carrying today) because it has the same cutting length as the 551 but in a slimmer package.

Felt like my post needs some comparison pics (took these a while ago so ignore, or don't, the two Spydies :))

And here's my 940-1501 sandwiched between my 940 and 940-1:

My 551-1 with a new clip for a different flavor .
I'm loving this knife and can't get it out of my pocket since I got it . I've owned and had many and this is by far the sharpest out of box I've ever owned and just might be the sharpest I own period .

Another vote for the 940-1501. I just got mine and its a rockstar. Scales are a little smoother than I expected but overall not a problem.

I'm very interested in a 940 as well man. I almost got one but the guy was selling it for $235 plus 8 percent sales tax. That was a big ol nope. So I got a 556-1. It's freaking sharp and it's very nice to carry. I am a huge fan of the open back design and the colors certainly pop. But I have a Para 3 and it kinda beats it in every category. It flys out of the handle faster, locks with less stick, and closes butter smooth. So I'm gonna be honest and say that in those ways the 556-1 disappointed me. The only reason I haven't traded it for a 940-2 yet is because it's a first production run. But like people have been saying, it comes down to personal flavor.

I have the 555-1 and really like it. I carry one of my 2 mini grips about 95% of the time. The other is the Ritter version. I prefer the Ritter blade and grind, but the G10 flow through grips are really nice.

I have both and, to me, the 940 is easier to carry and easier to use. I have the 940 and the 940-2 (which I think is the best of them all).
