That seemed to be a lot of people's favorite game at Batsons's today..... where's Aldo??? All that beautiful steel, noone there, bunch of "order 1084" flyers all over the place.... where's Aldo??? In a fit of desperation I parked my fiance, her 15yo daughter and her daughter's friend in all of Aldo's chairs around the steel and waited.. and waited... and waited.... no Aldo :(

Aldo I'm coming back up tomorrow to buy a knifemaker's anvil from Sea Horse forge and if you're not there to guard that beautiful steel you'll find a note with "thanks for all the steel" under a rock on your bumper :p I do plan on buying hopefully a bunch of 1084 from you, that stuff looked great.

Aldo, or someone who introduced himself as Aldo, was there about 2 pm or so! We chatted for a moment and I bought a couple of bars of 1084.

Finally found Aldo, spent 3 hours shooting the bull with him and others. Great times. Can't wait to use the Aldo 1084 on the new Sea Robin Forge anvil I bought. Freaking hammer just bounces off of it like it's a superball.

.....the new Sea Robin Forge anvil I bought. ...

It is good to hear Chuck is still making anvils.

Is this one of those mega-mass big honking vertical squares in the stand? Kicka$$ knifemaker's anvil.

Mike, YEPPERS :D I just finished forging up 2 small blades.. freaking amazing how much effort is reduced by a "real" anvil. I'm not complaining, I was using my fiance's father's anvil but it's like forging on a block of wood as far as rebound is concerned. I was even able to swing my 4# for most of the day.

I only got a 90# but it rebounds like a 250# I was lusting after his 260# but didn't have the moolah. He had a 300+ with a hardy hole in it but I definately couldn't swing the money for that, but it was very reasonable for an anvil. Just a little over $2 a pound, can't beat that especially since you know you're getting a quality tool.

If y'all want one of Chuck's awesome anvils you'd better get on it, he told me he's probaby going to quit making them due to the expenses involved.

One does not look for Aldo......ones LISTENS!! It is nigh impossible not to pick out that accent amongst all of the other, more twangy ones...lol:D

Rocketman, I don't think that Chuck maintains a website. However, I believe this phone is correct - 601-798-0060 and his email address is - robi5515@bellsouth.net. He lives in Picayune,Ms. Contact him and request some info on the post anvils he makes. The video of making and heat treating the anvil is about $30 or so and is worth it just to watch him heat treat the anvil.

Louis,

I Googled "Sea Robin Forge Anvil" and I found two images, apparently posted by Chuck Robinson himself. The host site apparently prevents the images from showing up here directly, but here are the links; Anvil photo 1, Anvil photo 2.

Also, Don Fogg has this image on his website:

They are a serious looking piece of gear. especially the big one with the hardy hole. I would miss not having a horn for drawing, but they look like they would be the ultimate anvil for knocking out bevels!

I have to agree about listening for Aldo.... I dunno how "jorasco" was only there a moment. :) Apparently the wiser people there just got their steel and ran off...... alas I stayed ;)

I believe Don Fogg uses the same or a similar anvil. It's a Japanese anvil that doesn't require you to sit on the floor ;)

I'm also glad to know Chuck is still making the anvils, he makes some nice Japanese style hammers too. His Sea Robin Forge bladesmithing anvils are about as sweet as it gets for forging blades. I absolutley adore mine and wouldn't trade it for the world. It is Don Fogg's main bladesmithing anvil as it is for a number of other smiths too.

Here's a tip Don gave me after forging on my anvil at a demo. It helps to round off a couple edges/corners so that forging the blade up around the ricsso area won't give you sharp creases form the fairly acute edges his anvils come with. You can leave a couple sides sharp as well. I haven't been able to bring myself to shape mine yet with an angle grinder but it works amazingly well as is. The feel when forging on it is of a much bigger anvil than it's weight though it's no lightweight anvil in any case. Enjoy it! Man I wish I had made it up there, I'd have been trying to hunt up Aldo too!

Aldo still has the 1 inch 1084 and the big 1095 and he is trying to drum up enough orders (at least 3000 pounds) to get another batch of the larger 1084 stock rolled.

Yeah, I should've ordered some of the larger 1084..... I'll shoot him an email and get some, don't want to call because my cell phone only has so much battery time ;)
