New Gayle Bradley with Forced Patina

actually looks pretty cool. very dark, I'm impressed. out of my carbon blades, m4 definitely resists staining the most, after a lot of food prep and fruit cutting, you'd still have to look closely at my blade to see the subtle color changes. compared to my opinel, mora, and case CV which discolored just about instantly in strong acidic fruits the first time I used them. which is fun in its own way :D

For instance looking at this pic, notice the slight darker color near the tip and sloping down towards the edge

I agree. But thanks for giving me and idea. I don't like uneven patinas much, that's why I was thinking of gun blue. But I am hesitating because of the "no turning back" thing. So I'll use it until I get an ugly(IMHO) uneven patina. That's when I use gun blue on it. :D

Dunno about "no turning back." I've been using cold bluing products for +40 years and have yet to find one that isn't all too easy to "turn back"! :grumpy: :D

real nice looking blade. bravo.

M4 is a weird steel when it comes to patina. my M4 milie looks almost pristine, just some small changes in the shine. my GB (muuuuch more used) is weird, it doesn't patina very dark but it seems that the patina is established deeper than simpler carbon steels, it's way harder to polish it back to shiny and if i use the same polishing paste i use on my carbon steel blades it seems that the blade stays darker no matter what i do.

it also takes more patina on one side than the other ... weird.

I've sort of formed an unscientific impression that most, maybe all, of the powder-process steels produce less than uniform results. Not sure why...

I'm not usually into forced patina but that looks great. I don't think it looks too dark, it goes great with the CF scales and the black clip. It kind of looks like some custom camo job.

Exactly my thought.

Looks good....

I've done some forced patinas and when it got that dark most of it could still be removed pretty easily. I'm curious to how that wears. It'll still look good I believe.
I would also be concerned with pitting when going that dark.

mine does t have a patina, but i just go it and its one hell of a knife and a great value considering its less than half as much as my umnumzaan and still great quality

I used apple cider vinager on my GB for an hour and a half. I did the blade

without getting the pivot....I didn't disassemble the knife. The patina is

a light grey color.

I like it Much Better than the cpm 4 color.

Damn, that came out dark. Looks great. I found I had no trouble using the heck outta my GB once I forced some ugly on it.
