New gear - Tea kettle

I saw that one at MEC, along with another Model by MSI that was a bit smaller.
It's definitely a good buy.. considering the height of this one makes it more practical for different uses.

The other one gave me the impression is was too small to be really useful. considering the spout is pretty low on it.

Awesome buy dude, I hope you enjoy it!

Can you sit these directly on the fire? How well would they hold up to that? Thanks.

They hold up but it is more efficient to roll one rock back a little in the fire pit, push a bunch of coals into the hollow and boils really fast without heating the handle. You can also keep the fire fed this way and adjust simmer or boil by your coal amount.
I hate having the fire die down to cook because in the wet woods up here you need to keep a hot fire to warm and dry the wood before it catches or it smolders and gives no heat.

As long as the water hasn't evaporated away, the kettle can't get much hotter than boiling water. There's no reason you couldn't put it directly on the fire.

I have the MEC stainless kettle, very good for the price I think. one piece stamped so no welds to develop weak spots. the spout takes getting used to as it is little more than a slot in the side. I do wonder about how well the handle will hold up as it is rubber covered, but even if they get damaged, the handle will still be strong.

I am starting to downsize all my equipment since it is just going to be myself and the wife going camping anymore. I have decided to start selling off all my extra Surefire flashlights and any knives I have and don't use anymore. I definitely need to get one of these to make Ramen and Tuna Casserole on the fly. I bet you could heat up MRE's in these too.
