So I was browsing GEC's site and it suprises me how they can sneak info in that is so easy to overlook. Lately I have really been liking the acrylics and wanting to purchase one. I just really prefer the long pulls of the Northfields but acrylic and Northfield are a rare combination to say the least. I wish that rootbeer on the 76 was a Northfield or they would bring out the pumpkin again, hint hint. As I was browsing this page HERE you can see at the bottom right for the 1865 Northfield their will be a new acrylic. The Pheasant Feathers Acrylic, this led me to google to search this out. Looks like it has a history with pens and I can not wait to see what this stuff looks like. A few pics to get the mouth watering

I can not wait to see GEC's version of this on a knife. As a kid I grew up pheasant hunting and always loved their beautiful feathers. This should be very interesting. Anyone ever heard of this on a knife before? pics?

Never really like acrylic. Always thought of it as cheap and not to be considered in the same class as bone.

GEC has definitely taken acrylic to a whole different level. That stuff is really clean looking. I don't know how it ages but it looks top notch out of the box. I might even get one of these to check it out.

The Hogan pattern has been on my roundtuit list for awhile, I'm really curious as to how the new acrylic will look. It may push it to the top of the list!

I think its the 3d nature of the acrylics that GEC achieves which takes them to that next level. I can only go off of some of the killer photos I have seen around here for that conclusion, I am sure they are even better in person. Couple that with the fact that I am starting to dig the old acrylic knives that are more unique. Its all adding up to more GEC's for me I am sure. Just need to get over my longpull obsession.

I welcome their use of new and perhaps more interesting acrylics than in the past & I hope GECs version of Pheasant Feathers looks a good as that pen. I'm just beginning to appreciate the acrylics and only a handful appeal to me.

Whoa, that pheasant feather is some good looking stuff! I agree with you that it would be pretty sweet to see some more of that pumpkin patch acrylic -and in time for an October carry knife. ;) That stuff looks great and I missed the boat on it before.

I missed the boat as well on the pumpkin. Would love to see a special edition of the 66 or 76 with pumpkin and a coping....I can dream.

To clarify, I have no idea what GEC's version of pheasant acrylic looks like, those pictures are just the only thing I could find with that name. I to am hopefull theirs has that color and with reason, most of GEC's names are right on the money.

They've definitely had their share of misses (that strange gold glitter stuff springs to mind!) and I've shared your opinions on it. The Rootbeer Float acrylic they've come out with this time though looks original yet timeless to me. I came close to opting for a Tidioute #76 in Buffalo Horn but decided the Acrylic really was quite special. It then took me the best part of an hour choosing which one!!

Total agreement about the pheasant acrylic, looks great. I don't normally like engraved bolsters but the two together on the right pattern could work too....

If you want to get a good idea of a Northfield that meets most of your criteria, pull up the GEC 656111 in Fools Gold Acrylic (no, it's not that hideous gold glitter stuff:D).

I have one of these because the scales remind me of our kitchen table growing up in the 50s/60s. The acrylic is sleek, beautifully fit, and not only does the sabre ground clip have a long pull, it has a double pull. This grind puts a lot of steel into a quite sleek overall package. It'll give you an idea, anyway.

Took me awhile to find a Pumpkin Patch but it was worth it:

Not a great photo I know, but even if it was it is very difficult to convey how deep this acrylic pattern looks, just awesome.

Ah, thats a beauty. Got a line on one, I need to pull the trigger. Just so many I want right now, hard to pull in a duplicate of a pattern when I want the 76

Have a White Owl in Kryptonite. Thought it was just plain weird at first but it has (to me)
an art deco quality that is extremely cool...

speculate no more! There is a picture of the pheasant feathers acrylic on the what's happening page.

There is also a new coffee house acrylic on the Tidioute line

Thanks Vic, had not checked the GEC site in a few days. I like it and I also like the look of the finished knife. Think it might be time to kill a few birds with one stone and pick up my first traditional lookback and my first acrylic.

I'm still bummed that they only put out one model w/ the candy apple red acrylic (Northfield Whittler I think).

Mark, GEC can't always get the acrylic they want, without ordering enough for a zillion knives! Even big producer Case would be daunted by the amount that would make a custom order feasible.

I love the look of that "coffee house" acrylic. Can't say as the pheasant feathers tickle my fancy, nor does most of their acrylics. The patterning tends to be a little "loud" for me.

I'm curious to see how the pheasant feathers looks on a finished NF with long pulls and swedges. As FortyTwo Blades mentioned, it looks a little "busy" though I guess could be said of the Pumpkin and others.

The coffee house looks nice too, but I'm waiting on a NF for the Hogan.

I saw a GEC Moose in Cinnamon Suger Acrylic on a purveyor's website for the first time today, and it looked great.
