New GEC acrylic speculation time!!!

Mark, GEC can't always get the acrylic they want, without ordering enough for a zillion knives! Even big producer Case would be daunted by the amount that would make a custom order feasible.

The more I think about 'just one candy apple red model' is okay. Simply because I would've emptied my bank account for one of each model. It was just plain beautiful. I'm gonna take a look at the coffeehouse acrylic coming up.

While the pheasant feather interpretation on the ink pen on page one is extremely attractive, I don't care much for this pattern at all. I only have the photo above to go by at this stage, but it is approaching "Glitter Gold" status in my mind.

Yeah not too fond of the look of that stuff. Like pertinux said it looks like the feathers were "blenderized". Oh well.

Are we sure these are not real pheasant feathers encased in clear acrylic?
If not it is extremely impressive how they mixed and blended the various colors to come out like they did when what, I assume, started out as a block of material was cut (on a lathe?) into a tapered barrel shape and there is no distortion in the "feathers".

I don't have any idea if they are real or not, but they look realistic. Regardless, it would make for a handsome set of knife scales--particularly if they left the shield off.

No thanks! These look like some kind of chocolate sprinkled with coconut flakes (dandruff...) GEC can make very desirable acrylics, but not this time....Glitter Gold's offspring indeed:eek::thumbdn:

Pictures seldom if ever capture acrylic's depth, so this one might still turn out to be a looker-- if one forsakes images of "pheasant feather" as seen in older examples such as the pen posted in this thread, and takes it on its own merits. The expectation of something more elegant certainly affects how I view the finished product.

It's not to my taste regardless, but had it been named Smashed Candy I would have been better prepared for its reveal. ;)

"End of Root Beer Float Day" acrylic, perhaps?

I still can't decide if it's  or :thumbdn:. Time will tell.

Agreed.

**Off topic** Hey, does anyone know the blade length of these things from tang to tip? I may pick one f these bad boys up if I can legally carry it.

If it helps, I have a regular (no lock) Northfield Ben Hogan with a saber grind clip and it is exactly 3 1/2" from top of rounded bolster to tip while open. Cutting edge on it is 3 5/16".

That helps a ton; legal concealed carry dictates that knives 3.5" and below are legal here. I may not get one now, I don't want to push my luck carrying a barely legal blade :(

Thank you for your help btw, it is most appreciated!!! The search continues!

I totally agree that it's wise not to push your luck on this one. Besides the fact that my blade is every bit of 3 1/2", because the handle is also long and slim, the overall appearance when open gives the illusion of being even longer than the full 8" it actually is. I wouldn't want to have to try and sway a cop who may already be in a foul mood.:)

I don't hate it... but it's not my favorite... I'm going to wait & see if these don't sell well & get discounted. Then, I'll surely nab one of those locking 65s. ;)

In other GEC acrylic news, it looks like Dead Skunk and Kryptonite are about to make a return-- on #25 Jacks:

I'm a little disappointed in the pheasant feathers, but as has been said the pattern may end up being more than what photos can show. The Coffee House acrylic looks terrific, but I was holding out for a NF version. Given all I've gotten lately I'm going to have to pass especially with the BF traditional shipping out soon. Too many packages in the mail :D

Dead Skunk and Kryptonite are excellent in my book. Be nice to see the 25 clad in them.

I am with you here. I think the name is off, they should have called it something else. I am going to have to wait and see some better pics before I make up my mind. I am considering this to be my first locking traditional, seems like the perfect size. Just have to decide on the flavor.
