New GEC Jacks with pruner blades

In the UK this pattern is called a Tackler . Maybe someone has a catalogue pic??

The Weaver is sweet. It is not really the optimal edc shape or all that necessary to me but it is great looking and fun to open -I could almost see myself taking up mushrooming just as an excuse to carry this knife. ;):D

It also made me even more excited about the Forum Knife. The Easy Open on this thing is perfect!

I am trying SO hard not to cave on one of these... the three blades are beginning to become available. I just got a clip blade Dogleg jack, and I LOVE it, the 3-blade version of this knife in stag with the Clip and a large Sheepsfoot plus Pen blade is heaven to me at the moment.

I'm with you on the 3 blade version all the way.
It is a very unusual pattern and that Bocote wood looks incredible!

Yeah, as far as I know, there is no other knife available with both a large Clip and Sheepsfoot, as well as a small pen (my three blades of preference). The only reason I carry a Stockman most of the time, is because it is the closest I can get to perfect for me. I do wish that the blade was a little less "flamboyant", but that is accurate to the pattern, so it isn't like GEC is stepping out of bounds or something. It's actually mellower than some hawkbills I've seen, which is why it can probably be called a modified sheepsfoot, whereas most hawkbills wouldn't fit that category.

The only Gripe I have is that the non-easy open versions still have the blade sitting extremely high in the handle. With nail nicks/slots, I don't see any reason for the blade to ride that high, it just makes the knife take up more room in the pocket. I suppose if one doesn't care about keeping the backspring perfectly flush, they could just grind the kick down a little to drop the blade in (assuming there is clearance for the tip in the cavity).

I spoke with Greg at TSA today, and he said the Bocote and Micarta 3-blade versions are only 5/8" or so wide. That's actually slimmer than the two blade stag dogleg jack I'm holding right now, definitely manageable.

I'm waiting to see what the end-capped Northfield version in bone looks like.

As a keen gardener I've got even more excuse!

much appreciation to jazub for excellent comparison pics. i hate yardwork [sweat enough working carpets] so i'll stick to dogleg spear & the pioneer.--dennis

Great pics, Jazub. That knife has "work knife" written all over it IMO. Much the way I think of a sodbuster. I like slim singles so I had to get an ebony as well. Almost wish I'd waited on the bone version, as the antique black looks really nice, IMO. I do hope GEC will consider other single blade styles on that 56 frame.

Edited to add:
Haven't gotten mine yet so I don't know, but the ebony looks darker on your new one versus the older ones. Is that the case?

Thanks guys, glad they help. As I can't afford to pick up everything I like, I'm really looking forward to your pictures of some of the different handle materials offered as well. :)

Biglmbass, the ebony on my Weaver is the darkest example I have received thus far. Not sure if that is the case for the whole batch but it reminds me of some of the nice dark ones from '07 that I've seen in Dennis' pictures.

Just ordered one in ebony.

I love the blade shape, but it seems that with that much of it sticking out of the handle when closed, the easy open notch would be unnecessary. I would have liked a double bolster, non-easy opener with hawk and pen blades in ebony, but I'm sure this will make me almost as happy!

Sigh... Once again, another knife that's too small for its pattern.
Does everyone else really have such tiny hands, that 3.5" is the right size frame?

You'd be really surprised... have you felt one of GEC's #56 Dogleg jacks?

I thought the same thing, until I got my Stag handled clip blade in. The knife is very stout, and fits nicely into the hand. This is coming from a guy who previously considered the Large Benchmade Bone Collector "perfect" size. I'm a pretty big dude, and this pattern drops into my hand like it was meant to be there.

The three blade version of this knife is even better... it's almost 5/8" wide so it really gives you a lot to grab on to.
