New gec model

They've also just come out with a new lockback knife. It's based on the scout frame but has a much wider blade, and a lanyard hole--for those of you who like that sort of thing.

Sort of...

Just out today, they have a Beaver Tail version of the furtaker trapper with jigged wood scales and a beaver shield....looks just like a beaver.

when buying gec i find a simple equation works for myself. if one wishes for dyed in wool traditional patterns look elsewhere, however a person desiring one of the best factory knives currently being made in the world would be well advised to purchase gec. i look for quality materials, fit , & finish in my knife choices, not dyed in the wool patterns. gec has never proclaimed that their patterns religiously mirrowed the old time classics .

...notice I didn't say anything bad about the "Mother of Brunswick" handle. It's actually the best part of the whole knife. :D

Kerry, you absolutely slay me! :D I laughed out loud at the computer for several minutes over "Mother of Brunswick." I think it evens tops your use of "yum-buttery" to describe ivory hafting. Keep it flowing brother.

Lock-back I just got adds a new dimension to GEC. Easy to open, snapping lock, lanyard hole, and an old, familiar way to close; LOVE IT.

I think this is a much better looking version of their new Furtaker Trapper.
I love the beaver shield.

Talk to me more about the ease of opening. I've had some GEC's before, and have been very impressed with their quality, etc., but with old age creeping up on me and my grip not being what it once was, I've shied away from them because of the relatively stiff springs. I've assumed these new lockbacks would be easier to open, but you never know.

Coyote..

Here's a great video comparison on the ease of opening with the GEC...

Thanks, Boggs! I googled "#72 mini lockback" and it got me to TSA knives, which has a very nice video!

GEC's new release page is now showing a couple of bone Furtaker Trappers too -- yellow smooth and green tractor jigged.

One in the lovely, lovely Burnt Sky acrylic came in the mail today... it's a very nice knife. My only quibble is that the wharnie blade sits out too far (A problem shared by the 260210 Little Carver sleeveboard) to be really comfortable to hold when using the other blade.

I really like the two "beaver" versions. Stag should be out next week...

I"m not a big fan of stag (I know, I know...) or wood (At least, not on a folder.) I go for bone, but the acryclics are nice for their color. I had that trapper I got from you out in the sunlight today, and it's even purtier than under bulbs. The protruding wharnie blade's not as much of an issue in use as I thought it would be, too. The combination of wharncliffe and clip blades is a nice one. Now if only GEC would make a 3 inchish version, or Case a CV version of their take on it...

Yup. I believe that Case's entire wharncliffe trapper line has been stainless -- and that just ain't right for a traditional slipjoint. How's it supposed to get a nice patina? (Or at the very least, I want a better stainless...) That's the only reason I haven't picked up a few.

In the meantime, the Case Swayback Jack or one of a couple of 3 inch GECs that I have will serve quite nicely when I want a small slipjoint to complement one of my Spydercos if it's a one-handed opener, pocket clip kind of day.
