Nice Cattle knives Ed!
GEC has just issued an actual Stockman - a serpentine three blade. Pretty nice.

Thanks Charlie.

You're right. GEC has come out with a Stockman that they call a "Calf Roper". It is a small knife -- 3 1/2" closed. That will make an easy carrying knife for the pocket but it will be small for a true working knife on a ranch or farm. Heck, the Sheepfoot blade and the Spey blade on the knives featured in this thread are 2" long which means that the Sheepfoot blade and the Spey blade on the "Calf Roper" will be under 2" (probably around 1 3/4" long) which is pretty short for a chore knife on a ranch or farm.

Not to mention which the Calf roper has a really chunky clip blade, whereas the Stockman has a nice slim Muskrat style blade. I find the slim Muskrat style blade to be much more useful.

i have several northfields with the glazed finish. most northfields do have a higher polish but as all things gec--nothing is written in stone.--dennis

Ya got that right Dennis. Actually, I think GEC does a better job with their sating finished blades than they do with their highly polished blades. Personally, I'm not partial to either. I take them as they come.
