NEW Gerber Bear Grylls Knife What Are Your Opinions?

I would pass, and save up for something with a better blade steel. Just my opinion though.

The color, mystery steel, toyish plastic handle and advertising hype is a big red flag for me.

The new version certainly looks cleaned up, visually.
I don't especially care for the Grylls logos, but the orange could be critical in preventing loss.
The steel, who knows. "High carbon stainless". If it's at least mediocre, it's maybe not a bad knife for the price. The Chicago Cutlery knives I use were also advertised as "high carbon stainless steel," and those things cut like crazy! At $45 for the Gerber, that's the same price as a Buck Pathfinder in 420HC or the smallest Case Finn in Tru-Sharp.

The one thing I'd like to see in person is the sheath system. Is it durable and secure? Or cheap and cheesy?

for the money Id search for something better, hell even the s30v ez-out and 154cm gator would be better buys

Sheath system is actually very good. Gerber essentially took the LMF 2 sheath and added some fittings for extra items.

I'd still go with a Kabar for the price.

Looks good. I bought the scout folder to just see how it was. I was really surprised by it. Good lockup. Light. Sharp and takes an edge well. No complaints, really. I think the fixed blade would do most jobs well, but for that price point, you honestly can get into a lot of other knives. The sheaths do look good, however. With a whistle, fire steel and a stone, I don't think you can go wrong. You're going to get a lot of haters here, but the reality is that this knife is not a toy and I would be thankful to have it in a tight spot.

As for BG, I have no real opinion about him. I have seen his show, but his name on the knife means nothing to me. I actually like the color scheme and the big BG logo means about as much to me as any other manufacturers/designers name or logo.

It looks like a toy for a boy climbing walls without a rope and then falling because he was pretending he didn't have a rope.

I have the older version. There is just no way to be happy with it. Wont take an edge or hold one, serrations bend easily. I haven't broken it, even though I've used it pretty hard... so, there's that.

This model seems to have fixed the problem. :)

Would like to see a test against a Esee, or would it be not fair? :D

I think its just a hype..
