New Gerber fighter - What do you think?

The CRK look in this case is due to Chris Reeve being one of the knife's designers.

Here is the info from the Gerber site.

The L.H.R:

In the urban warfare environment, soliders recognized the need for a close quarter combat knife. After studying and interviewing hundreds of real life hand-to-hand combat encounters, MACP Close Quarter Combat expert Matt Larsen worked with award-winning knife makers Chris Reeve and William W. Harsey Jr. to create the L.H.R. The quick-release sheath has a built-in safety release that can only release the knife by the wearer. The textured TacHide™ handle provides sure grip in wet conditions. Proudly made in U.S.A.

Available February 2010.

Okay, just saw this. Thanks for that clarification. I wonder if it would do better than the Green Beret in the Noss tests... I'm not saying that Noss' tests are valid or not, I'm just curious.

I don't like the finger groove, I don't like the combo edge, and I don't like the price. $200 for 420HC? You've got to be kidding me. At half that price, it's still too expensive.

Pricey for 420 ... but ... wouldn't want ta' be stuck with one ... man if it tickles your pickle buy one.

Pass.
Definitely Reeve inspired. Not crazy about the handle pattern.
Looks like something S&W would contract out to China.
I can do without the serrations.

A few months ago I wouldn't have even looked twice at this blade between Gerber's rep and the serrations and the rubberized handle.

But I recently picked up a LMF in a trade, didn't even really want it and planned on flipping it but it's become one of my prefered fixed blades for rough work.

Now, with my experience with the LMF, I find this new blade pretty interesting. I can look past the steel and serrations but not the price.

I would put out $80-100 for it but no more and the 100 is pushing it.

$200. for 420hc? Absolutely not - I don't care who designed it. If Paul Bos did the heat treat for Gerber on these, as he does for the Buck 420 material, then I could see that. But $200.? Not for run-of-the-mill 420hc.

Dump the serrations, and it's be a nice knife (for less $$) otherwise.

thx - cpr

Thanks for the info tenbeers , not really my style of knife but I'm sure it will find a niche.

Looks like some folks should do a bit of research so they wont have to feel foolish for jumping to conclusions....

I think it looks a lot like a Chris Reeve Green Beret knife.

Kind regards,

Jos

I'm pretty sure that it was an actual collaboration. Might be wrong though. I read an article on it in TK a while back.

Whoops! Tostig beat me to it. :o

The only thing they have come in handy for is removing bark off a walking stick.

I did just that with the serrations on the new Endura4 the wife got me for V-day. Made cool grooves in the soft layer just under the bark. I find the serrations are fine on a real multi use EDC blade.

They'd have to bring the price wayyyy down before I'd consider one. When you can get a Becker for around 75.00 in a good carbon steel then 420hc needs to be around 60.00 even with the tricked out sheath.

I'm wondering about the ergonomics of the handle.
the tang sticking out of the (too small?) handle scales.I dont know if that is very comfortable.
the serrations I can do without but is not a main issue .
the price defenitely could be lower.
the Chris Reeves green beret knives arent cheap either.
they look very identical to the LHR knife.actually .

how does the Green Beret handle feel ?the finger groove...
does the tang stick into the palm of the hand in an annoying way?

or is it unnoticeable?

I like the looks of the knife .
though looks aren't everything, they do count :D
