Well I'm thinking a 9 is an excellent start indeed, with a smaller blade to compliment it. Like a 11/14. Or if you're only looking for one blade go more all purpose with a 7 or 5. Heck a bk4 is pretty if you like the looks of them! I'd encourage you to try and get your hands on a couple and see what you think, different blades will just fit you better.

Id get a becker from moose or tomars kabar. They both ship quick :)

As far as where to buy we can only suggest bladeforums dealers (its rules) so id say moosez45 who is a mod in this forum or tomarskabars.com
 
Welcome to the forums Mrs.B! It looks like everyone has given you good recommendations. I think the BK9 and BK5 are essential Becker knives and you can't go wrong with either.

Perhaps your time would be better spent trying to be an upstanding member of society instead of pushing rules, limits and blaming others for your own actions.
