My wife and I have a guest visiting from California and we're showing her some of southwest Virginia. So, of course, we had to take her to "the Last Fountain" at New Graham Pharmacy, which just happens to be the home of New Graham Knives. :D

The staff at New Graham (including the lunch counter) was friendly, courteous, and helpful. While not the only knives they carry, New Graham really shines when it comes to their selection of Case, Spyderco, and Benchmade. With the Blade Show coming up so soon, I didn't want to spend a lot of money, but I did pick up a bright green FRN Spyderco Jester. Usual excellent Spyderco fit and finish. If Spyderco ever decides to upgrade the steel on the Micarta version, I'll be buying one of those, too.

Really like Spyderco's new box.

I had also planned to pick up a Case damascus doctor's pattern while I was there. Unfortunately, I was extremely disappointed with the quality of the knife I examined. :( The blade wasn't at all centered, nearly touching the liner, and there was a large (~1mm) gap between one of the liners and the backspring. Also, I don't know much about slip joints, but the ones I do own (a Buck trapper I bought 30 years ago, a Camillus Tuxedo, and an Old Timer medium stockman) have blades that snap open and closed (especially the Buck and the Shrade Old Timer). The walk and talk on the Case was nowhere close to that. Now, maybe the display model was just a bad one that slipped through QC, but after examining it, I wasn't even interested in checking out the other ones that were still in their boxes.

However, all and all, a day well spent. My thanks to Michael Dye and New Graham for a very pleasant experience.

Place two orders in as many weeks and those bandaids came in handy!Oh yah my knife came today!
Thank you Mike!

Dave, small town corner drugstore...the way I think it is suppose to be....glad you enjoyed your visit...yea, the Case Damascus patterns seem to struggle in the QC dept..I have pulled the specimen you looked at and will see if I can get it replaced....Unfortunately, I have seen this even in the Case Select Doctors knives...suppose to be the flagship models in the Case lineup..perhaps (and I don't know this for sure) it is more difficult to keep this old pattern true to original specs and make it comparable to, say, a trapper pattern...don't know.

Rogue...I feel your pain...I use the bandages too//maybe it is providence I own a drug store to patch my bloody fingers.

My thanks to you both...Regards, Mike

yea those Bandaid dispensors Mike sends out with orders is to cool, Not to mention handy with someone as accident prone as I am :)

The flashlight I got yesterday is kewl to Mike!

Mike, my wife was in contact with you recently about some Sharpmaker rods as a gift for me. Although they were out of stock the day she needed them, she said that you could not have been nicer or more helpful. I appreciate it and more business is coming you way. Thanks.

92,thanks for the kind words...it is nice to get a thank you even when you don't come thru for someone...Regards, md

Copout...I know you!...will get you an entire box of bandages next time...perhaps a few combine dressings too! Don't put your eye out with the flashlight...md

I agree, got a Micarta Jester form Micheal a few month back. Nice guy, very fast shipping and great communicaton. :D

Came home this evening to a nice surprise.... :D

My Sharpmaker was here from New Graham ALREADY! Whew, what a sharpener. The instructional video was great. Sal still has ALL of his fingers! Both New Graham and Spyderco are winners in my book. :)

I got a couple of Spydercos from Mike & New Graham. Excellent service and fast! I could use one of those band-aid dispensers in just about every room in my house though. Thanks for the great experience. It was my first time dealing with Mike, but it won't be the last.

Ken

I agree. Great, fast service. Just got a Spyderco Jester and Benchmade Mini-griptilian.

I really needed that band-aid dispenser and 4 stitches (that my wife put in, again!) the last time I got a Spyderco Endura SE in VG-10 from him. Man, those Spydercos come really sharp.
