This is a grinder I just made. Its uses a 150x1220 1200W Rexon sander as the power source and tracking, the platem assembly I made using angle iron and steel, the contact wheels are 2 inch diameter from Sheffield Knifemaking Supplies. The grinder and platen assembly is bolted to a thick plywood base for stability. It runs quite smoothly and I have done a bit of grinding on it. I think the total cost was around £300 or around $600.

Nice work. I made one just like that out of a RYOBI 4x36 belt sander. It didn't have a lot of power (1/3hp) but I made a few knives on it !!

I forgot to mention, if you tilt the sanding platen on the Rexon, it can change the length of belt you can use, Ebay sometimes have belts of odd sizes avialable cheaply.

Wow, very creative!

(I used to live in the UK and after moving back to the good ol' US of A, we don't know how good we got it here -I saw a Wilton square wheel with all accessories go for $335 on ebay  ).
