I just had to share for the ESEE fans.

I have a Buddy that is into woodworking and he had some Cocobolo scraps and offered to make me a set of grips for the H.E.S.T.

From the time it took from cutting to install on the knife it only took him about an hour. It was his first attempt at making a set of grips. We just went with the same profile as the standard ESEE grips but they are thicker.

The wood is just sanded and no other finish has been applied. For a first attempt I think they came out awesome.

Super. I want to do something like that with a couple of ESEEs. Anybody know where to get the black, torx screws that'll fit the HEST? I am never gonna use the handle storage so I want to ditch the brass slotted screws.

I agree, those grips look incredible. Tell your friend to put them into mass production. Soon.

Very Nice!!! Makes me want a hest even more.

you may wish to at least seal them, so that water will not damage/degrade them.

That is super cool!

I have an upright belt sander, approximately 2" x 48" with a flat plane to push against. I used to have a scroll saw, but left it at my old place of residence.

I know have a metal cutting bandsaw that I can use for that type of material. I have some random micarta knife making pieces and some wood for handles that I intended to use to make my own knives (I am 85% done building a 2 x 72 belt grinder with multiple attachments....8" wheel, flat plate etc....). I might make myself a pair of handles with some wood or micarta. Thanks for the inspiration, it looks great!

Also, I could make my own scales for my Izula and Becker Necker........this could get interesting!

Could you take a picture of the side profile and also measure the width of the wood? I'm interested to see what thickness they are. I have a lot of wood that I intended to make knife and straight razor handles/scales with that is gathering dust......I'll try to make a pair for myself and see how you guys like them.

It's possible that I could make a couple of extras for people if they wanted them if the OP's buddy doesn't want to commit a lot of time to it. I don't want to step on anybody's toes, though, so I'll probably make scales for my izula, hest, becker, 3, 4 and 5 (when ordered) and then show them off and see if there's any interest. I originally started restoring straight razors as a hobby (as I've always loved knives) and eventually got into actually making knives. I haven't made a knife yet (although I have two ready to make into either flat or saber grinds) or heat treated anything but woodworking/scales would be easy and quick and also motivate me to finish my knife grinder!

I did some out of some homemade micarta. Was going for a tan but it came out too light. Has red liners.
Still have to recess the screws also. I'll probably darken 'em up a little.
My other one I'm leaving stock.

Sorry for the crappy pic. Photography is not a skill I possess.

I was going to make some homemade micarta also......I have the canvas that I bought and some fiber resin. Did you follow the instructions (pictoral) that are popular on a forum? Could you give me some tips? I'd like to have handles that I made myself out of my own handmade micarta.
