What do you guys suggest I get for the steel in a customized griptilian?

154cm
D2
N680
S30v?

Also does anyone know how the customized photo works? Do I need a simpler design or logo?

I'm thinking about getting the sheepsfoot blade, looks pretty cool

I think the S30V is a great steel that holds a good edge for a good amount of time, and, isn't terribly hard to touch up to keep sharp.

I usually use my knife for cutting more delicate objects, tape, cardboard, sometimes insulation and zip ties. For heavier use, (cutting caulking, limbs) I use my weatherman wave. So the steel will not be beaten up too bad

Like Bugout Bill said. The only way for us to give you the best choice is if we know what you plan on using the grip for. I have a grip in 154 CM that i edc regularly. It takes a bit for me to get an edge on it but it holds up well for edc use. As far as d2 i have a benchmade Dejavoo which i edc even more often then my grip and the D2 take a pretty good edge ( for my skills atleast haha) I personally prefer the D2 over 154 CM. I cant help you with the N680, never had a kinfe with that steel. S30V is a great steel to have on a knife, i havnt had to much experience with S30V because only 2 knives I have owned had S30V and I didnt use them really ( not because of the steel but the knife itself). From what I have observed S30v is a very capable steel. Im sure some ofthe other members here can give you more info with it though.
If i was buying a griptillian again I would probably get it in D2 steel.

If you will be doing mostly abrasive cutting, I'd go with D2 or S30V. If you need more toughness, N680 would probably be a decent choice. 154CM is a fairly good all around steel, too.

I have had the Grips in 154 D2 S30V and the 154CM is very good, Really like the 555 with the hollow ground sheepfoots blade. 154Cm is my favorite. Easy to sharpen and hold the edge for a decent time.

All other things being equal, D2 and 154cm will be pretty close on toughness and wear resistance. S30V will be a step up on both toughness and wear resistance. But they are all good steels. You really can't go wrong with whatever you choose.

Tough in what way?

If you mean "tough" as in wear resistant, then yes. It is not a "tough" steel when it comes to impact or lateral stress. Far from it.

I meant if he's using for tough tasks, let's say cutting a lot of zip ties or cardboard, D2 will do quite nicely.

Thanks for the input guys. Can anyone explain n680 a little more? Seeing it on the griptilian options is the first time I've heard of it

N680 is a highly corrosion resistant steel that seems to be the new favorite steel of Benchmade. I believe it performs similar to 440A stainless (don't let that scare you away).

Another vote for D2.

As long as we're clear that Benchmade D2 is not Bob Dozier D2. Personally, based on the limited info we've got, I'm not sure I wouldn't stick with the standard 154CM, but that's an opinion not TRVTH. ;)

Id say go 154cm save you a little bit of money and it. Will still perform great and is much easier to sharpen

I would go with 154CM, there's a reason that's the standard steel they offer ;) I prefer it over D2 or S30V, but I don't have any experience with N680.

I didn't care for the CM154 in my first Grippie, but I do like my Cabela's Grippie in D2. It's also hard to beat S30V... my BM Mini-Rukus in S30V is great, but too heavy to carry comfortably.
