Thank you to Sal & Spyderco...( thanks PJ)
The new re-engineered Guntings have arrived...They look, smell and feel like Guntings..and they are sharp..S30V...
We held a cutting party:
They cut through chicken legs without slowing down..making micro slices of bone if needed...
They cut right through several layers of blue jeans to slice off hunks of Pork loin..
They cut through soda cans filled with water..in one swipe...of course without toppling can or losing the botttom of the can..
They cut a free hanging 4" long, two lines wide strip of paper in half in one cut..
They punch right through a level 2 & 3 vest..
I really like the new G 10 scales..it's got a rougher texture to it..very grippy...

Ohh did I mention the serrations are REALLY sharp? One student accidentally lightly bumped into them..so much for that finger!

Sent a few over to Afghanistan, Iraq and Okinowa...yup to our boys in action..get those bad guys!

again..Thanks Sal & Spyderco..

Hi Bram. Thanx much. I do believe that we have improved the model.

Better engineering, thanx Peter.

Better manufacturing, thanx Mikey, Roque and the Golden knifemakers.

Better Steel, thanx Crucible.

Better G-10, thanx Spyderco East.

And thanx Bram, for your patience.

Specs, pictures please?

Also, are they available in plain edge? Will they be available in plain edge?

The new, improved Gunting should be blade to examined at close quarters. I have always thought this particular model merits greater attention.

Its design is avant garde. Much to my personal taste, and I am pretty fussy! :)

 New&Better Gunting??!

This "old" is superb, so i cant imagine better engineering and better manufacturing, someone have pic of new ??

Where? and When? will the newly designed S30V Gunting be available?
Will these be more expensive than the 440V?

Ou YEES!
... MOre-detailed-infos-!-!-!

Yes, why? isn't a plain edge configuration more versatile? plus the blade length is only 3 inches. How versatile is a 1 1/2 inch plain edge...

I would also prefer the PE. I guess since I consider it a utility knife as well as a defensive weapon, I would like to be able to sharpen it when it's needed. I know that you can sharpen the SpyderEdge but I'm a PE kind of guy. I have 2 Spydies with the SE (a Goddard and Mariner) and they're great cutters but they don't see as much use as my PE knives. I guess maybe I should re-examine my values. In the meantime, I'm going to see if I can find another PE Gunting for my collection.

Later,

Rob

Are the new Guntings going to all the major dealers?

I haven't been able to find one of the new ones at any of the usual online stores I frequent...

Just saw one today while I was getting a knife fighting/defense seminar today in MD <shameless plug> Red Dragon Jujitsu in central MD offers a great quick hands-on practical course </shameless plug> and I like everything about it.

Thanks,

-Jon

I was limited to one blade style..I picked PS..
and yes..its enough of a blade to have two different surfaces to cut with..if its an MBC its cool and if its EDC..well the two edges offer more cutting choice..
Can't sharpen serrations? get a triangular sharpener..
there's a bunch out there...find someone with a broken Sharpmaker rod and carry that piece with you..ROFL...
As for Dealers carrying them?
Most Spyderco dealers and Distribs wouldn't know a Gunting if it hit them in the head..caused them to trip and fall or it was infront of their faces..
You need to have your dealers order it for you..You need your distribs to order it for you..
They don't know of the Rones usage as well...

Be PROACTIVE..go after the Gunting..don't wait to see if it shows up..cause it won't...
I mean its not an Endura or Delica...

you want one? go get it....
Thanks

Thanks for the update BRAM. I really do prefer PE but if CE is all I can get, then it's all I can get ;) I already have a PE I EDC so it's not that big of a deal to me, if I need a PE I have it.

I have another question. Are the Drones new and improved as well?

Thanks,

Rob

Indeed, most dealers are clueless about the Gunting. The only B&M dealer I ever knew to stock Guntings was Nagel's in San Antonio, and by the way, I bought their last PE Gunting several months ago.

Look..Guntings are cool..
PERIOD
don't wait..go ORDER one..get your dealer to order one..
they don't know..they have no idea..so TELL YOUR DEALER-DISTRIBUTOR to order it for you..teach them about the tool..the GUnting...
make sure you have a DRone...yup a red training drone
Then go get the Instructors View point DVD's on usage..
it's so simple..

I got one of the last 440v PE's before they are gone. I HATE combo edges so I really wish Sal would authorize a PE.

I really need an excuse to buy an S30V blade. But, my desire is to play with the new steel, and I can only really test the steel on a PE blade.

I am sure this topic has been discussed, but I have not seen it: Is there any chance of ever coming out with a Gunting with a longer blade? It would be as simple and grinding a longer blade and putting it in the same handle. Seems like a good way to make a new product for people to buy, without putting out a lot of effort (good business sense). Even people that have a Gunting and are big fans who might not buy another knife because they are so happy with their Guntingas their "only knife", will buy another one just to have a longer blade version.
Similar to Glock coming out with the .40 cal. Once everyone had a 9mm Glock and they last forever, how is Glock going to boost sales? Well, they take the same gun and add new calibers and suddenly everyone has to get one of each of the same exact gun.
I assume that the shorter blade is to keep it legal in some places, but some of us don't have those laws and want the most blade we can get. It certainly can't hurt to have an extra inch.

Since the Gunting is primarily a SD knife wouldn't havint it fully serrated make more sense then combo edge?
