New guy, First EDC in different $ ranges

my less than $50 edc's:
kabar dozier folder
buck prince/knight (500 series)
bucklite
a swiss army knife (sak)

my more than $50 edc:
ritter minigrip

I carried an all stainless buck 503 for 11 yrs. I've been carrying the ritter minigrip for the last 2, except when I'm on the water I now carry the dozier b/c it's cheaper to replace.

Out of curiosity, is the ritter griptilian that much better than the regular version? Besides blade shape, is there something else? Blade material?

I've never had a regular grip, so I can't say all the differences for sure.

My ritter is s30v & holds a great edge, tho I've heard others don't like the steel. I prefer the drop point blade shape & the thumb studs to the regular grip shapes & hole in the blade that I've seen. I also like the yellow scales, b/c I like to be able to find it if I drop it.

Other than that, I think I just fell for the whole Ritter/Equipped to Survive spiel & had to have one. I got it with a ritter mini survival kit & a crank phone charger from aeromedix as a package deal. (I'd rather not have to use either one, but I got 'em anyway!) :D

Hey guys! It's been awhile since I started this post and I just remembered that I promised to come back with an update. I have had a Spyderco Centofante III for about 2 weeks now. I can say with confidence that this was the perfect choice. I got it for about $52 shipped from Amazon.com. It took awhile, but once it was here I was pleasantly surprised. The weight of this thing makes it almost irrelevant when carried in my pocket. It is so light that I find it hard to even notice that it is there. It looks great as well and definitely makes me smile every time I take it out to use.

Within the first few days of ownership I was able to use it for several task and made my wife agree that an EDC knife IS indeed very useful. :)

The cheapest knife that I’d still call a good knife is an SAK, for under $20 you have tones of options.

Another good option for around $25 is the Byrd Cara Cara G10

At just less then $50 a good option might be the OD-1, very cool knife and you can find them everywhere at nearly every Walmart.

Finally over $50 your options really open up. The Caly 3 has been mentioned several times and it’s a great knife. But you don’t even have to go beyond $60 to get a good knife like this Endura 4

1. Look at Victorinox's Swiss Army Knives. Even if you buy something more expensive it's worth having some of these around for the tools. For just a blade, Opinels cut well but aren't the easiest to use with one hand and have no clip. Spyderco's Byrd line is a very good value, and my personal choice for a cheap modern folding knife. Kershaw and Buck both have some pretty good models in the 15-35$ price range worth looking at, but none have worked quite as well for me as the Byrds.

2. Spyderco Tenacious, Delica, Endura, Centofante or if you find a good price the rust-proof Pacific Salt is a great purchase.

3. Look for a Spyderco Military or comparable model if that size doesn't suit you. New they'll run a little over 100, but they can be had for 100 or less here in the exchange forum under For Sale: Production knives.
