New Guy GAW

Excellent giveaway Big Biscuit. My partner, Gus loves a good hot biscuit. Hope you heal up well.

Congrats to 5KQ!

I want to thank everyone for the well wishes. It is greatly appreciated. I will update how things go later in the week when I can.
The random number generator came up with #41 which is 5K Qs. Congratulations 5K. Please message me or email your information and I'll get that right off to you. :D

When Bob posted this Sunday evening, I was already fast asleep in Spain. I then spent all day Monday returning home, arriving at my local airport 24 hours after I got out of bed in Spain. Sometime Tuesday afternoon, I finally saw that I had received a VM from Bob notifying me that I was the lucky winner. What a great surprise for a tired traveler! :o

Thanks to Bob for his generous GAW, and thanks for the many congratulatory posts I found here when I finally realized that I needed to go catch up on this thread! Remember to keep Bob in your thoughts and prayers as he faces surgery this week. :(

This is my first time back on all week. Gary I got your email and will send that knife to you ASAP.
Good news; The doc was able to remove most of the tumor. They opted (agreed to by me before hand) to remove a kidney.
Bad news; I'm still facing rounds of Chemotherapy. We were hoping that the surgery would be a bit more successful and possibly just face radiation, but it wasn't in the cards.
So, as bad as it sounds, it could have been a lot worse and the Dr's are very optimistic for a full and complete remission.

I would just like to thank everyone for all the thoughts and prayers. It helps a lot. Having family and friends around you is a very precious commodity in times like this.

Congrats BB! Good to hear things are looking up and you pulled through ok. Good luck with the rest, I hope it all goes well.

My dad went through something very similar. Keep your spirits up and persevere and you'll be just fine.

I just wanted to check back in and see how you were doing. I'm glad to hear that you surgery went okay and that there were no major complications, although that is unfortunate they had to remove a kidney. That is great if they believe complete remission is possible now. Take care of yourself, stay positive, and I will pray for you.

Also, congrats to 5K_QS on winning the giveaway. That is a beautiful knife.

Thank you guys for the continued well wishes. I'm back home this weekend. Feels good to be home. I think the ordeal is more stressful for my wife and grandson than anyone else. My grandson is old enough to understand what's going on. He's 14 now, but we are extremely close and he's having a tough time with all this. So I'm just trying to reassure him that things will be okay. It'll be springtime soon and we'll be fishing just like every other season.

I'm out, however I appreciate your generosity for giving away a nice looking knife. It's not a knife that fits my collection, so I hope it goes to a home where it is appreciated. Also, I wish you good luck in the surgery and a short recovery afterwards.

EDIT: sorry, I didn't read through all the pages before I posted. I'm glad to hear you're doing well.

Bob, from one cancer surgery survivor to another, keep a positive attitude, your grandson will pick up on it...and it'll do you a world of good as well.

Wishing you continued recovery and all the best...if you ever need to talk or whatnot, I'm never more than a PM or email away.

Sincerely,

Scott Olson

Bob, it's great to hear that you're back home; that's gotta give you a boost, right there! I often say that my philosophy is, "Shut up and play the cards you're dealt." But that's easier said than done when you get the kind of hand you've had lately. I really admire (and am inspired by) the positive attitude you're displaying here. I'll keep praying that the doctors are correct about the remission and that you and your grandson will be reelin' 'em in before you know it!

Congrats to the winner. That is a lovely looking bone sodbuster.

And to Bigbiscuit, may your return to health be speedy and full.

I wanted to pull up this thread one more time just to announce that the Sodbuster Jr. that Bob so generously "raffled off" showed up in my mailbox last Friday, and I finally took some pics (truth be told, scans on the MFD at the office :o) this afternoon. Thanks so much for sending me such a splendid knife, Bob! The chestnut bone is absolutely beautiful (and I'll confess that I often think that Case's bone looks kind of "cheap" or "showy" or something that just doesn't do it for me, but this is WAY different!)! I think I've seen someone's Case swayback jack in identical chestnut bone, and someday I NEED to find one of those; what a striking pair that would be, matching chestnut bone SBJ (SodBuster Jr.) and SBJ (SwayBack Jack) - oh my!!:eek::thumbup: Here are some pictures showing off the bone; they're of course very similar to the pics in Bob's OP:

(I went back to post #67 in this thread and found a photo of the swayback jack that Simple Man had posted there. I hope it's OK for me to re-use it here just to show the nice matching of the 2 chestnut bone knives:

I'm excited to have an American classic like this Sodbuster, Jr., and I'm especially excited to have it in CV! This is only the second Case I've owned (the other is a SS Delrin Peanut I won in a GAW Cory Hess sponsored), and my first carbon steel Case. I'm looking forward to seeing a patina develop here, and compare it to what I've observed with my Opinels, for example. Here are a couple of shots displaying the classic blade:

So thanks again, Bob, and best wishes with the current snowstorm out your way, and with the chemo and cancer and all that. I continue to root and pray for you, man!

Thank you Gary. Use it in good health my friend.
We're getting hit pretty hard with the snow storm right now. Feeling a little drained today. Hopefully my son in law will stop by tomorrow to clear me out. My snowblower is all set to go.
Thanks for posting a follow up.
