New Guy handle/pins Help

Copper is fine. I think the nicest looking lanyard holes have flared tubing.
 
If I'm going to be using 1/4 inch tubing, do I still drill a 1/4 hole if I am flaring the tube?
 
Yes but you need to counter sink the hole on both sides so the flare has a place to go.
