Welcome but be aware that the most expensive Busse that you buy will be your first. Slippery slope and all. As to alternatives to the Exchange, For Sale (usually first crack and best price) or "that auction site", there are parts of the Exchange you might find useful. Want to Buy where you can list your desired knives and wait for a PM or Want to Trade where you can wheel and deal to get the knives you want. Just be aware that if what you are looking for is not currently for order at the Busse Combat site or for immediate sale at the Busse Company Store, you will have to hunt for and beat others to (or outbid, if using fleece-bay) your desired knife. I agree that the BATAC is probably the best choice for you. But I would recommend the Combat Grade (CG) over the Limited Edition (LE). The CG version is 3/16" thick vs. the .27" thickness of the LE. The LE is a BEAST, with more heft than you'll need for the chores you described. The CGs are pretty easy to come across on the exchange. Get one and a nice kydex sheath and you should be ready to clean fish, split decent sized firewood, whittle, and just about anything else you do while camping. This will be a bulletproof combo that will last years, if not a lifetime. Good luck.

You should also consider the Basics. A Basic 5 would be about the best knife I can think of (B5 here) for what you want to do. They are a lot less money too.:thumbup: You can only get them on the exchange.

Jaxx is one of the more extreme examples of Busse-o-phile but don't think that something similar can't happen to you. I started with a Hell Razor bought from the Company Store in May '06. A year later, I had a total of 7 Busse blades and by May of this year, my total may be 18. (Depends on how quickly they deliver the LE and HOG versions of the ASH-1.) Quite a few more than I would have anticipated and yet I am most pleased with my purchases and am only slowing down, for now, to save a few $ for a somewhat large purchase in the near future. INFI has cast it's spell or, as others have put it, I think I've had a bit of that Kool Aid.
Closer to topic, 2nd aspect: A basic 5 would be a good choice but you'll wait a good while to see one for sale. (Looking for 1 or 2 myself.) The BATAC is your best bet for the near future and will perform admirably, as mentioned by others. Pete

Well, to be honest with you, what Jaxx said is the truth! As a newbe my self, I'm may be at the second stage right now (if there is any). Received my first Busse, BATAC LE mid December last year. :thumbup:Then early this month, my ASH 1 DC Mag Black G10 arrives.:thumbup: Just paid for my FBMLE on BSC last week and waiting for its arrival hopefully next week. I am also waiting to see if I score any thing at the Cupidaganza.. Man, you are in big trouble.

I prefer the CG SFNO and SHe for my camping/utility knives..
You can usually find a SH-e on the market for a reasonable price.
SFNO s can be found but the prices are grossly inflated at the moment...
