Hey guys, I am new here. Just recently got into knives, because of a friend....
I wanted to know some knives you guys use regularly. So far, I have Case, Buck, and a SAK. Any suggestions? I am not a big spender, so under one hundred dollars would be good. Also, I am into Traditional and Modern style knives. I'm open to all suggestions. Have a nice day.

Welcome! BladeForums is truly an amazing community. I think most people here would agree that you should look into Spyderco's. There are high-value blades with nice designs and steels. Check them out.

There are a LOT of good quality knives under the $100 mark if you look around. spyderco, kershaw, cold steel, sog... the list goes on.

I would suggest browsing through the various sub-forums here. Gather the amazing amount of information that's available and use that as a starting point to what's ultimately going to become a seriously dangerous addiction. Some of the symptoms of said addiction is a much lighter wallet and, if you're married, possibly an annoyed wife at times! :D:D

Welcome to Blade Forums!

Oh, Check out Benchmade, Spyderco, Buck, and Kershaw. They all offer excellent knives for reasonable prices. Keep in mind, that's just the tip of the iceberg!

Are you looking for folders or fixed blades? What do you do w/ your knives - hiking, hunting, camping, fishing, stabbing zombies, etc.? This is the place for suggestions - help us narrow things down. :)

I have found that i just use my Kershaw S60V blur all the time. while you can't get it in S60V, you can get it in S30V,which is close. i find it practical, comfortable, and i almost never have to sharpen it. Other people will give you pother suggestions, so look at all the knives, do some browsing, and see what you like. we are always happy to answer questions.

BTW, welcome to the forum.

Welcome, new guy :P
seems like you're a traditional slip-joint guy?
If so, I suggest somethings modern...
there are so many good blade for $100. You could start by searching some knife brands like Spyderco, Kershaw, Benchmade,...
for under $100, you can get a Manix 2, or an Endura, or Griptilian, maybe some composite blade from Kershaw: Leek, Junk Yard Dog, Blur,...
If you want somethings really strong then go for the Coldsteel Tri-ad lock knives: AK47 (you must like it since you're Russian :P), Recon 1, American Lawman...
endless list man, good luck...

If you are on a budget, why not check out some of the best bang for the buck knives. Opinel, and any mora sheath knives. Nice thing about the Opinels, you can sand down the handles to any shape you like and re-stain them. Great knives.

Hey man, if your a starter on knives.. i wouldn't suggest any steel like S60V as it is a VERY hard steel to sharpen.. along with D2...
something along the lines of CM154 blade steel or AUS8 are bot good steels and easy to sharpen even VG-10... just remember with different steels comes different UPS and DOWNS..

Some you will have to sharpen more frequently.. some not so much...also some will rust on u easily.. and others not so much... so before buying the knife you are going to want.. look into the steel and see if it is right for you, and that you can tend to it.. as much as it needs...

now to awnser your question...well its sort of hard... you didn't really ask what knid of tasks you will be using it for... BUT considering you havn't been "into" knives before i guess you won't generally be using it WAY too much/hard...

So for you i'd say a Sage 1.. would do the trick, $99... Carbon fiber handles (beautiful) ... FFG (full flat ground) blade... makes slicing anything a breeze.... it is VERY light.. and the pocket clip carries pretty low.. so you wont be exposing it way too much...

if not that then a spyderco Delica 4 should do it...

Main companies to look for , (for under $100) are the following

Spyderco..(this 1 gives ya the biggest "bang" for ya buck..

benchmade (does run on the higher price side but still some u can get for cheap)..

SOG...

Coldsteel

and later on.. in around 2 years when your sucked into a knive addiction.. uncontrollably.. look at Chriss Reeve line-ups..

And look into the Sebenza 21.. $400 of pure perfection in my eyes... ;)

And if ya really want to get 1 that will feel like a "mans" knife... a rick hinderer XM-18... think its around $800 or so... ;)

Goodluck.. and i remember when i started.... i was uneasy about spending $60 for my Kershaw 1740 energy blade.. (first real knife) ... here i am.. years later ;) with thousands in knives haha =p

Enjoy em and be safe! =D

So you failed to mention Kershaw in your line-up, yet it was your "first real knife" Shame on you! :D

I'm a fan of Gerber knives (and apparently the only one one bladeforums.com). For an EDC I'd suggest their FAST series of assisted openers. Mine have all performed admirable over the years and they are relatively inexpensive. You could easily get 2 for $100.

Nah, there are quite a few around, they're just hard to find. :D
There has been a good deal of discussion about the Bear Grylls items.

I've lost interest in Gerber the last few years because the quality seemed to have fallen off with the changes in manufacturing locations and there seemed better choices for the price.
