Hell All,
I'm a long time lurker whom finally joined the site. I have always appreciated knives and their use, being an outdoorsman and martial arts practitioner for many years (not so active in that recently due to life being busy). However, I never really got big into sharpening and modifying until I got a Becker BK2 Campanion. I flipping love this knife. Let me give you a picture run down of my BK2 and its mods:

First mod was stippling those slick grips (did not like how slippery they were):

Next mod was stripping that paint and doing a forced patina (I went for a heavy gun metal grey look after convexing the blade):

Last mod I did was to my sheath. I did not like how floppy the sheath was so I added a tek lok and made sure to camo paint it to match my hunting rifle:

I'll have to get some updated shots since I have used this knife very heavily and I have spent a considerable amount of time on getting the blade shaving sharp. I realize in use that I may have not needed to even do a forced patina. I use this thing so darn much that it is getting some very attractive patina from sap, etc. That's my intro. Thanks for all the info this site gives and I hope to contribute to it as much as possible.

Nicely done! Welcome to our corner of the asylum, and glad you like the kool-aid! Stick around and post up more pics, we got a great bunch of folks here and you definitely picked a winner in terms of sharpened steel!

Thank you sir! The kool-aid is delicious. I am a tinkerer/DIY type guy and the BK2 has been more than accepting. I still can't believe how inexpensive these knives are. I must have cut wood for an hour straight just to test this thing out and the blade just needed a little strop action to get right back to paper assassin sharp.

Full disclosure, I am a photo whore so expect many more shots of this knife over time. I have seen some very nice wood scales and leather sheaths on this site and those two items are on my short list.

Looking good. That first photo looks cool how the stipling matches the texture on the blade. Nice mods all the way around. Welcome to the forum.

Great stipling on those scales! I like how it looks but prefer the smoother handles, but really thats one of the better jobs I have seen!

Hey Cryptyc......

Nice mods and nice pics to match.....Welcome to BladeForums and the Becker Koolaid stand.....LOL....... Thank you for your kind words and your purchase....... I hope you like it here, as a group, we like users who take good pictures, so you should fit right in.....The Natives ARE friendly if occasionally a bit mad in a wholesome kind of way....LOL...........Welcome.....

Ethan

The Warrior,
Thank you sir. That was exactly what I was going for. I liked how it matched texture wise.

gmoneyluv,
Thank you for the kind words.

ironborn,
Thank you for the kind words. I am excited to see how it evolves as well. I am one of those people that just can't stop until I get something just the way I like it then I'll use it forever......or until it breaks.

iwouldhurtafly,
Awesome user name. Thank you for the compliments on the stippling. I have had a lot of practice on polymer. I also modify my Glocks in such a way. I've done a few buddies' polymer guns as well.

Mr. Becker,
A comment from the man himself. I'm honored. I feel like I'll fit in very well here. Great design on the BK2 btw. This knife has sparked a passion in me. I've been a bit of a gun mod nut for quite some time but this darn campanion has me hooked!

Here's some pics of the blade in its current state....razor sharp and beefy! (ignore the bark remnants):

So, about this stippling.......

it probably the best I've ever seen.

Care to share the process, or will I just need to send you a box of handles I have laying around here for you to work on.....?

Yeah, I agree. I've thought about stippling scales, but have held off because I've seen some real botch jobs. :D
Nice work! Welcome Sir, and thanks for the pics.

Oh dear me..........

My first attempt at stippling looked like a puking 6 yr old done it. Broke me from the habit, now I just cover them with inner tube on my bigger blades.

Moosez45 & Jonny1280,
Absolutely I will share the process. I only have a Glock that I did a pictorial on the process before so please forgive the non-Beckerness of it:

Equipment: Very fine tip soldering iron. Cost me $10 at Walmart. Piece of wood.

Tips: Take breaks whenever you feel tired or your hand gets a bit shakey. Never attempt a pattern, instead just make sure that every dimple you make is contacting another to ensure that the entire grip area is stippled. If you attempt a pattern it will look like crap, trust me. Straight up and down or slightly angled does not matter. Only press the tip until you see some smoke then pull it up....unless you want some wicked deep stippling. Make sure you press the tip of the soldering iron into the piece of wood on occassion to get excess polymer off the tip.

Step 1: Outline the area you want to stipple and make sure it has an aesthetic flow

Step 2: Start filling in the areas between your outlines. Make sure you go careful around edges.

Step 3: Admire your awesomeness!!!!

Gotta agree with Moose (no, I'm not ass-kissing), the stippling looks impressive. I initially thought it was just how the pic looked on my monitor - great work.

Damn nice job......pretty even.....Nice tutorial as well.....Thanks....... Stick around please.....

Ethan

Nice job and nice tutorial. I like the blade finish better than the paint. I am very comfortable with the original grips on these.

Very nice job on that blade, congrats. I did stippling on my 2 as well, just enough to get great grip.
