He is fairly new here but has been engraving firearms for 51 years. Ken asked if I would post this picture that he will put on a small folding knife for a client. As you can see Ken has some serious artistic talent with the small scrolls needed for our bolsters and guards. Its not often we get somebody with this much experience willing to take on small jobs like knives but I want to send him a bowie and see what he can do.

I think Ken will chime in here and talk engraving with us. Meanwhile maybe I can google up some of his art and post them.

He sent me an email yesterday we're going to do some talking this afternoon about some stuff on some of bolsters. The examples on his website are stunning.

wow....that is incredible to say the least.....his engraving would class up any top rate knife for sure.....ryan

Thanks for posting the sample Mr. Bruce. Guys, I am to do two folder for Bob Hamm (maker). Being new to knife engraving, I thought I'd just layout what I thought would be the average size bolster & engrave a pattern in it. I'm told by Bob that the bolsters will be longer & wider but, that just allows me more room to design a more complicated pattern --- I hate plain old boring patterns. Even tho it wasn't done, the background on this pattern (when cut on knives) will be lowered to about .015" & stipples so that it is dark.

I would be pleased to hear from anyone with questions --- a ph. call (910-221-5288) is best for me --- there are so many options. I can be found in the shop seven days a week, 10-12 hours a day. Normal del. would be approx. 1 - 2 weeks for engraving. Thanks for looking & all suggestions are welcomed. ken

Great work Ken over many years. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the different threads. I've never noticed a super x model 1 receiver fully embellished before. I always liked those things.

Take care, Craig

Thanks Mr. Craig, I like them too. I even have one that I started engraving a few years back --- never finished it as client work always has to come first --- you know, the shoemakers kids go barefooted. You certainly should like these guns , they are very well built. Best regards, ken

Ken, you do amazing work. If I may ask, how long does it take to complete a small piece like the first one posted?

EDRO20 ----- Hi guy, this piece wasn't timed as it was done just to try out a new graver I had just shaped & the design was created to let the maker know what I was going to do. Off hand (since I didn't run a time study), I'd say it took about 3 -4 hours. When I actually engrave the knife, I'll remove the background down to .010 -.015" and stipple finely so negative area is black. Hope this answers your question. If not please call me & we'll kick it around. Best regards, ken

Hi Ken :) Very, very beautiful work !

I'm finally getting to the point where I think some of my knives could use a little engraving to spruce them up a bit.

I think I'll be calling on you in the very near future

Thanks for the heads up Bruce ;)
