new guy question

Awesome, those should give you years of good service. One observation: Mine tended to load up a little bit, but using Windex as a lubricant completely cleaned up the stones and seems to be preventing re-loading now. I used to use them dry, not anymore.

Windex does work well for cleaning them up. I've used it at times, in lieu of a dish soap + water bath.

They all are, yes. That includes the 'Dia-Sharp' continuous-surface plates, and the 'Duo-Sharp' hones, with their interrupted surface 'dots'. Same process for both, each with a different-looking backing plate underneath the nickel.

Good point, David. Much better answer than mine as I was actually addressing the heavier base of the DiaSharp versus the mounting of the thin DuoSharp surface on a lighter backing. Thanks for clarifying.
