New Guy questions

Spec Ops sheaths will work with the Skinny Ash or Ash LE. The Busse Company Store has Mashed Cat kydex which with a Tek Lock can be used on a molle vest. I have these two knives and a Jackhammer and have just sprung for a SJTAC variant. The last two are .187 as you have said.

I am in a similar position to yourself....so have similar needs...and have been buying to try to find the best one for me....thankfully I can move on the others easily as in truth all of the above are excellent choices and way better than other options.

I went to Knob Creek to check out what worked best for me and would agree going to the Indy show will be really useful.....and the prices there will be your best value for money as well compared to the exchange where many are still "marked up".

Be careful you don't end up "hooked" on this....I only wanted a replacement knife and now have a "collection".....it is addictive!

fixed that. It can be confusing for newbies.

Okuden sheaths are also great for use on a Molle vest.

I think that if you seek for the knife also to pry with, out the two knives - SJT and ASH-1 you should go with ASH-1 (skinny version). SJT is a great knife, but the tip on this knife is much less robust, than the tip on skinny ASH-1 not to mention original ASH-1. To me even a CG Batac feels more robust than SJTac. BTW - Batac is also a great knife for all around even heavy use. It's also a bit shorter thean SJT - easier to carry.

First off Semper Fi.

If I were back in and going over seas I would take a SJT, or an ASH 1.

I have bigger hands and would take the fat ASH. I sent a SJT to my Bro-in-Law who is in Iraq with the Army . He loves it.

Just my .02

Also an 0311.

I would go for the skinny Ash1. I own a CG ASH1 which is the .31 or .32. It does not feel overly thick to me when I use it, but it is going to weigh more than the Skinny Ash1 (which should still be indestructible). I love the handle shape. I used my CG Ash1 to butcher an elk, and it worked great.

The best thing, as already stated, is that they are still available at the company store Bussecompanystore.com
for 300 bones. They still have the muddy blade coating, with the tan mag handles, which is my favorite color combo.

The good thing is that it will get to your door lickety split from the company store.
