I'd be willing to bet most people don't like spydercos until they finally see one in person. Then they end up getting one just to try it and then they end up with 5 looking for more.
Apart from the materials (585 is made from good, 586 is made from very good), the 586 blade grind is different, a high flat grind, close to being a full flat grind actually. I much prefer the 586 blade shape/grind.
The Valox scales on the 585 are practical and resilient. But they have a hollow plasticy feel to them, whereas the 586 G10/alloy handle definitely has a higher quality feel to it.
Bit hard to describe, but if you could handle and examine both 585 and 586 at the same time I'm quite sure you would go for the 586, provided you can afford it. The difference between the two is quite striking.
I really like 154CM (585).
But M390 is definitely my favourite blade steel (586).
