New Guy, Waiting for my BK2

I bought a BK2 about a year ago because of all the positive comments here on BF. It is quite the tank as far as I'm concerned. It is a serious camp knife and one that I think you have to get used to using unless you have huge hands. Just got a BK16 the other day and I have to say that I really like this knife for the kind of using that I normally do.

Keep the BK2 and get another one. You may come back to it later. I will eventually get a BK9. For what purpose, I don't know, but that has never stopped me from acquiring more toys. I tend to like the short rigid machetes.

My first becker was the 2 also and I've had the same thoughts that you are having the few things that I've felt that the 2 was a little oversized for, were pretty few, but the times when you really need a beefy knife that's when the 2 really shines. I really don't think you can hurt this knife. Since then I've also gotten a 14 and that has turned out to be a nice pair together. I've also put the micarta scales on the 2 and that has helped a lot with the balance of such a beefy knife. Either way I think you'll be happy with the 2 even if you buy a 16 or 15 or even a 9.

Keep the BK-2. Depending on your uses, you might not ever go to another knife. I used my "Campanion" for several years before I got my second Becker, and I hardly ever use the second one (BK-9). I've cently picked up an -11 and -17, two that I've been eyeing. But the -2 has gotten the most use, and the one I'd trust to carry through anything.

Dont fret- the BK-2 is a great knife and you will enjoy owning one. They have a great heft to them and they really are just about indesctructable, the blade will take abuse and still sharpen back to a razor edge time and again. Its fair to say that you will probably end up buying both knives, but thats just the becker addiction kicking in. When you find a maker of exceptional cutting tools, you cant stop at owning just one! Here are pics of my BK-2 that I have loved owning and using for several years.BK 2 pic 1.jpg

No more fretting, I'm looking forward to a long happy life together - Now I just need some money, I'm planning on getting a Worksharp sharpener. Some guys' BK2s are sharp right out of the box, and others needed to be sharpened straight away. Mine falls in the latter group, but whatever. That's fine. Looking forward to it.
And yep, I'm sure the collection will grow.

Thanks
Steve

Pretty hard to own just one Becker. I do not use my 2 all the time, but I would NEVER sell it, the 2 is just one of those knives. Besides different sized knives for different sized chores. I just bought the BK24 and it has not left my pocket in 2 weeks, my BK14 and Izula are now in my go bag and hunting bag.
