Well folks, I'm new to the forums and new to Spyderco. I had been carrying a CRKT Crawford/Kasper daily since I got it as a gift when I graduated the police academy back in 2001.

One day last week, I had somehow left home in a hurry and left for work without my folder. Toward the end of my shift, I found myself reaching for a knife that wasn't there. Thankfully, I only needed it for a tedious cutting job...But, still.

Anyway, I asked another deputy to lend me his knife and he pulls out an old-school Spyderco Endura. I used the knife but before giving it back to him I couldn't help but notice how nice the knife felt in my hand.

My co-worker then spent the next 10 minutes or so, explaining the virtues of his Endura to me and stated that he has been carrying Spyderco knives since the mid-1990's.

The next day, I picked up my heavy CRKT and clipped it to the rear pocket of my uniform trousers. I couldn't stop thinking about how much thinner, lighter, and sharper that Endura had been. So, on the very first day off following my time with the Endura, I purchased one for myself.

Mine is the Endura 4 with a full serrated edge. This knife is razor sharp and the more I handle/carry it... the more I like it. I look forward to learning more about the Spyderco knives through this forum and just wanted to share my limited experience with all of you.

Welcome to the forums, Deputy 617! Be prepared to spend much more on the Spydies, because just like Lay's chips, ya just can't stop at one. ;)

Welcome to the fold.
For off duty work I recommend the Caly 3, best small folder ever made.
If you get one you'll probably end up carrying it on duty too.

Don't forget that you'll need something to keep the edge of your fancy new knife sharp, for which I recommend the Spyderco Sharpmaker.

And if you want to learn freehand sharpening (not that it works on serrations) Spyderco sells the finest ceramic stones around.

Welcome, you tell a very familiar tale, lots of us got hooked on Spyderco with the Endura. You picked a super knife to carry on duty, lots more to choose from, so welcome to the madness and stay safe:)

Hi Deputy,

Welcome to the Spyderco forum and thanx for the support.

The Endura4 is a very refined design with thousands of inputs from customers to help evolve the model over the past 18 years.

welcome deputy. i bought an endura 3 with my service pistol back in 2000. the endura is a great knife and it is also highly addictive, just a warning. i have over 130 spydies now:eek:. the caly 3 is also a great knife but i suggest a delica wave for your off days, you might want to try an endura wave for on duty.

Hi Deputy 617,
Welcome to the Forum, congrats with your Endura, enjoy it.
Do not listen anybody on this Forum, or your paycheck will be directdeposited to Spyderco and you became like the all of us. :D
Do not worry, you need just few more spydies, doesn't matter which ones, all of them are good. :p:p:p

Thanks for the warm greeting folks. I look forward to learning more from the forum and can definately say that this Endura won't likely be my only Spyderco knife for long. I'm already looking very hard at the Delica for my wife. She needs a new knife too (Her daddy was a butcher for 30 years, so she certainly appreciates a nice blade).

And, the fact that the company president responded to my first post on this forum speaks volumes about customer support for Spyderco in my eyes. I can already see why the brand has such a loyal following. Keep up the great work, and thanks for an outstanding product!

My first Spyderco was also an Endura. Since I bought that first one there's been no looking back. 15 straight Spydies since!
