Greetings all!

Long time lurker, first time poster. I recently decided to take up knife making as a hobby and after turning out a handful of knives over the last month or two, it's pretty safe to say that I've caught the bug. Here are a few that I've made so far. All made out of O1 with basic hand tools--mostly a hacksaw and a few files...

I've decided I want something more than a file jig (THANK YOU Aaron Gough for your youtube videos!!) and just plunked down some dough for a 3 speed KMG grinder with a flat platen. I will eventually upgrade to large and small contact wheels, but for now, it should help save some wear and tear on my neck, shoulders and back while profiling and through the bevel grinding process.

I'm looking for some advice on what belts I should go with. It will likely be a week or so until I get my KMG and in the mean time I will be making a trip to TruGrit to pick up a handful of belts to get me started. I will be doing mostly scandi or full flat grinds of my blades at first until I get setup for hollow grinds. What brand/grits of belts should I start with?

This is a question that is only truly answered by your own experiences, but I'll give you my roster, for what it's worth...

36 grit Norton Blaze
80 grit Norton Blaze
120 grit 3M 707
220 grit 3M 707
400 grit Klingspor 309 JFlex
I've recently begun using various grits of 3' Trizact CF (Gator) belts (A160, A100, A45) for finishing stainless kitchen knives

I predominantly flat grind.

EVERYONE grinds differently. EVERYONE will have different answers. What works for you may be entirely different!!!
