Hey all. Just wanted to drop a line and say what's up. Just recently signed up on the forum after searching for knife information and having this place constantly pop up. I was going a little crazy trying to decide on a new EDC style knife and the info. on here helped me make the decision. Just ordered a black on black Paramilitary 2 the other day. I am not the type to collect things so I wanted a good all-arounder and this seems to be it. The only problem I have with this forum is that upon searching for the "perfect" EDC knife, I have found an insane amount of "I don't need that but I think I really want that" knives! Fly fishing gear, and now knives. The wife is pissed! :D

Haha... Yeah you're screwed friend :) last Lear I was in the paramilitary two price range... Then I joined the forum... Just ordered my very first custom...$550... Welcome to the addiction ;)

Welcome to the forum. Great choice on the PM2. I have one in my pocket right now. Warning: I wasn't a "collector" either when I first started carrying a knife... that was 3 dozen knives ago. Have fun!

You made a great first choice!

However,

You will eventually buy another knife. You will want one that's thicker, or smaller, or longer, or titanium, or tanto, or custom, or with ikbs, or a Bali, maybe an auto...you see where this is going?

WELCOME to the madness:

Welcome to the forum.
You may spend more money than you thought but the advice given here will make the purchase a wise one and a knife that will stand up to demands and last.

Welcome to the forum . Best advice.................. get used to the wife being pissed .;)

HOLD MY BEER AND WATCH THIS !

Welcome, and as the others have stated, prepare for the addiction....when i started here a little over a year ago my budget was less than $100, and i didnt own any knives unless i carried it daily..... Now i have customs and tons of safe queens i only touch once every few months. No wife, no girlfriend (not anymore, thank the Lord) so I buy what i want when i want....Lord help me :D

Welcome.

I'd bet your PM2 will not be your only Spyderco.

Agreed. My first Spydie I bought in August was the Gayle Bradley. I now have a Manix 2 XHP, Nilakka, Schempp Rock, and a Dragonfly ZDP. Not sure what's next, probably a PM2 sprint.

Well you might want to start thinking about talking to the misses about how the any additional overtime you do out of the ordinary may be for the knife fund, or somehow dedicate a knife fund now. Most people here spend a lot of money on knives, a lot. My advice buy one knife at a time learn to enjoy it before moving onto the next.

Oh and get some good sharpening gear, head on over to the maintenace, tinkering and elbellishment part of the forum. Lots of great guys with lots of insightful knowledge. They can help you get your knife sharper than you ever dreamed possible if you let them. Knife sharpening can also turn into a hobby.

Funny thing about knife sharpening is that it's mostly skill and very little on the equipment you use, so it's a cheap hobby to get into and pairs up nicely with the whole knife hobby assuming you don't go overboard into buying lots of equipment. A simple well made combo stone can get you far, heck you can even use wet/dry sandpaper and get great results. Only thing you have to worry about is what abrasive you are using enough to effectively remove steel from that particular knife (S110V for example may be asking too much from an arkansas stone).

My advice: Buy a new knife. Take wife out for a nice dinner.

Repeat as often as necessary.

Now's the time to try and get her into it, too! You'll thank me later :D

My wife EDC's a BK 11 and a Kershaw Cryo.

+1 on this! My wife took over my Kershaw Chive collection and has several other various knives of her own, and our combined collection now approaches two hundred...

Yeah that's good advice too, try to get her into the whole knife addiction as well. Just don't start with a swiss army knife, it's hard to argue with someone when they ask you why you need anything more than that, and their cheap knives too. A kershaw chive, and other knives like that be nice a nice starting point to try to get her into knives if she's not into them right now.
