You are starting off right. I started with no idea of what i was doing and no one to tell me.
I have learned alot here on the forums. just keep at it and have fun.
 
If you want to keep the patterns, lexan or plexyglass type sheet works well. Some guys make them out of steel or aluminum.
 
Get a 12 pack of 24TPI Lenox bi-metal blades and a high tension hacksaw. You will see a big change in how it cuts over the traditional hacksaw most folks have hanging on the wall. They are about $25. The 10 pak should be about the same, or a bit less.
