New handgun! WOOHOO!

As everyone else, you got a sweet deal on that one!
I came across a used 4" 686 years ago for considerably more than $200, but the previous owner had done one amazing trigger job on it... Everyone I let shoot it wants to buy it! :D

:thumbup:Congrats Ken. The 686 happens to be my "all time" favorite wheelgun.

You got it at a steal BTW!;)

Oh man. That is a sweet, sweet piece. The 686 is a great gun- the second best .357 ever made, IMO. Only the Colt Python is finer, and not by much. $200 for that? Makes me want to cry. You lucky bastard. And I bet you even got one of the old ones, before the lock.
What a score.

Congratulations on a great deal for a great wheelgun.

The only way it could've gotten better would've been a 327 Night Guard for $200, but you take what you can. :D

I'm a sucker for wheel guns. I think I own more of those than anything else and all in .357 (I like that I can fire cheaper .38 rounds). I think my next revolver is going to be the Ruger SP101 in .327 Federal Magnum.

everyone deserves a break like this at least once.mine was a 4in. model 29 n.i.b.for 300.00 had a 3lb.trigger broke like glass.my 686 with cci +38 shot so good that you call me a liar if i told some of my war stories with that 6in.prodigy.i'll let one out anyway. bunch of guys bought pieces of adjoining property in tx.about 15 years ago.we were 3000 ele &20 miles from mexico no trees only ocotillo yucca &cautus.had a marginal 100 meterrange[2 rail road tie] told them should have been on in case of shot coming to camp.when they thought they were in they shot the distance at beer cans 9xx on scopes.i like all black sights no pink plastic front sights& no white dots.they were missing and i let off 2 rounds oofhand, missedput a sleeping pad across hood of p.u. and they replied [aww he's getting serious]had a good rest and held 3or4 in.high of drop because of low velo.load & after nearly .75 seconds can flipped in air.dead silence followed but i had the last laugh.this was real however i do'nt think you will beleive.does'nt matter since i'm 70 now all my war stories are behind me.

Me too. Simple and easy to use. Kinda like simple cameras: Point and Shoot!

A tip on the .327 Federal SP101's: I think they've all been recalled, and as of two weeks ago, Ruger wasn't releasing any more until they solve the issues that have plagued this model. But the ballistics on the cartridge do look interesting. I recently picked up another SP101 snubby DAO in .357. Lightly used, I got it for $ 340.

Nice snag on the 686!

Like all the other posts, big congrats. This would be my choice for a nice home gun for my wife, as she has shoot a .357 many times in her previous marriage. She actually prefers them over the .38's.

Congrats:D

And man was that a steal. I paid quite a bit more for my used 4" 686 a couple months ago. However, I wouldn't trade her for the world. It's my most accurate firearm...well, in my hands:o Heavy, robust, and rock solid. It's a pants soiler when you look head on into something like that with 6 little indians peeping out all wearing their hollow hats:D:thumbup:

I'd love to carry mine CCW, but in the summer months I have no where to PUT the dang thing. .38 snubbie for the summer...then we'll see if I can find a comfortable way to carry her during jacket weather.

Great score:thumbup:

Personally I think my 4" 586 is a better gun than my 4" Nickel Python. Bank vault tight and a hell of a trigger, albeit it has been worked on extensively. But I've been told that my Python, even being 40+ years old, hasn't been fired all that much and will improve with use.

I love the four inch L frame and paid $250 for mine 12 years ago. That being said, I would prefer to have a six inch barrel on that frame. I think they balance a little better.

Great score regardless.

Maybe! I had a canoe for sale w/ a travel trailer for $800 and a guy stopped by who lives around the corner and offered me the 686 and $600 for the canoe. Luckily I had a permit in the house that I just got last week. We did the paperwork, he got a canoe and I got $600 and a sweet wheelie.

What's even better is that he is selling off most of his collection of weapons. I stand to gain a few more from him when cash permits including a sweet, sweet, sweet Colt Mustang .380. I have to do some research on this one though as I'm a lefty. I need to see if an ambi safety is available for it.

Oh, and here's the pic....

Yer' makin' me sick you lucky dog!:D

Nice score on that 686! I've been eyeing one for a while now, along with the SP101 in .327 Federal Magnum. Both great guns. How's she shoot?

One of the best revolvers out there for a steal! I've got about 5K rounds through mine and its perfection.
