New Hartshook bit me

002.jpg

Just got a new hartshook, really neat knife . When I got it I thought this is cool because it fits in the sheath either way. Well ,learned something this morning. I use my left thumb to hold down the tab so it will come out and here the blade also faced that way and sliced my thumb wide open. Dumb thing on my part but never thought of that. Anyway, now that I learned a lesson, Its really a cool little knife.

Hey LG

Great matchbook, I grew up in St Marys-I spent many a late night at the Hilltop. Never knew they had matchbooks. Musta had too many Straubs to notice.

Thats a real old matchbook,as you see in pic. It lights in front, Hilltops still there and looks busy everytime I go buy.. I used to drink Struab greenies until a year ago. gave up on booze . When did you leave the area?

Left about '89-still get back mostly for funerals though. Glad you liked the greenies-I keep 1/2 on tap in the basement but I've cut way down.

what part of central pa u from?
probly gettin 2 far off forum topic now. sorry

A little town Im sure you know,,, Penfield. As far as "Off Topic" Ill let it go this time, since you like the Greenies.

Finally! Got mine yesterday, love it. Still working on how to carry it, I'm thinking I'll ultimately go with a black cord around my belt then into my right front pocket so I can use the cord to put pressure on the knife and pull it right out. Awesome little knife.

I carry mine on paracord around my neck 24/7. I like this knife better every day, gets lots of use, plus Im always fiddling with it.

I love the Hartsook. But I have the first version and and the sheath just doesn't get the job done. I can't justify buying another one just for the sheath, so it lives on my desk and gets used for little odd jobs here and there.

You can pick up a sheath for around $6. Just search around on the Internet, they're all over the place.

Send the sheath back to Buck, and they'll send you the new one.

E-mail me I have some of the new style sheaths for nada.(5)

I actually like the sheath. I wrap a good rubber band around the end. NEVER had a problem. If you want it tighter, make a few more loops etc...

I've been carrying one on and off duty for 1.5 - 2 years now.

Mine was just a bit loose for my taste, so I put a rubber band around it then dipped it in almost boiling water, then in cold water to set it. Took the rubber band off, and it's been fine for 2 years now. But I do keep meaning to send it back to Buck so they can send me a new one. I talked to them on the phone, and a very nice lady told me if I send them the old sheath, they'll send me a new style one.

Buck is a very stand up company and they do make it right if there is a problem.

Had a dream ("nightmare"?) last night that further confirms I'm getting old.
Used to be that'd I dream of gals. Then, when I quit smoking, smoking.

Last night I dreamed that I reached for my Hartsook on my belt loop. Haved carried it each and every day since it arrived. Months now.
Anyway, I pull it out of it's little sheath and it was broken right at the choil (what there is of a choil). Snapped in half.
Bummed.
Woke up and the first thing I did was to check out my Hartsook.
I love this little knife.

Thank you for reading. Needed to get that out. If I told my wife or kids, they'd probably just roll their eyes. Well, you may be doing that too...but at least I can't see it :)

Makes perfect sense to me. I haven't dreamed about any Bucks lately, but I've been known to have dreams about Randalls. And that perfect pastrami sandwich. Ah. . . .

I understand you very well, Buckaholic. It's not unusual to have loss anxiety over something that has become very valuable to you on a personal level. I know my little Hartsook has become a very handy and beloved daily companion/tool. So much so, that I bought a spare, just in case something happened to it and Buck was not making them anymore.

The Hartsook is one of those things that it's impossable to really appreatiate until you use one for a while. Then it would be like loosing your right index finger.

Doug is an awesome guy, he would visit when we had our shop, he lives down the street and is the salt of the earth!
