3" Cutting edge, 6" long, with 18" hickory haft. Head is forged from bits of wagon wheel and drops of anchor chain wrought iron and is the first off my recently completed vertical forge. Still playing with figuring out exactly how to shape and forge a hawk to what I want, but getting closer. It's wraped construction, with it welded together then split with a chisel and a 1084 cutting edge welded in. I didn't have any 1084 thick enough, so I welded up some 1/8" pieces I normally use for damascus, left a couple of silver lines, but I figure that adds to it.

The little knife is a 1084/15&20 damascus patch knife/utility knife I just got done with re handling. Original handle wound up with a nice big crack on the butt after dropping it on concrete just after finishing.

Will, really nice pieces there. I like them both.

Bummer about the first handle, but that one looks real good.

Thanks, we get some sunny weather and I'll try and take better pics, iphone's OK, but not real clear.

Love the hawk, but I'm wondering why you didn't put such a fine head on e more dramatic handle.

I've thought about it, and may change the haft out. But I pretty much stick with hickory for handles, there extremely tough. Curly maple is pretty, but not that strong when compared to hickory. I may do another hickory with a little more elaborate carving. I ever get around to doing a nice pipe hawk I'll use some nice curly maple.
