This one was my second and was for my Newest Nephew who was 14 at the time and didn't
feel like he was a part of the family at the time. He does now (Poor Kid ha ha)

Larry

Wow these are your first knives? Very nice! I dont mean to be rude but did you have help or are you very gifted?

Larry is my appretice smith. He is a fast learner and seems to be sincere in the craft. He is beginning to buy his own tools too. Great guy to work with and a good man also.

He is much more computer literate than me so maybe we can get more finished projects up now.

Welcome to "Shop Talk" Larry!!

HOLY SMOKES MAN  Those are hands down the best first knives I've ever seen  Nice work Larry !

You know that really ain't fair though, calling them your first knives and all. Not considering who your Journeyman is anyway ;) Talk about getting a head start :D

Welcome to BladeForums Larry. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your stuff :)

Those are so nice that I was skeptical at first, to be honest. I really didn't believe you. But, now that I see who you are learning from, I definitely believe you now. You are a lucky man, indeed, to have Bruce for a teacher. There is no finer gentleman in knifemaking in my opinion, and there may not be a finer knifemaker. He is first class all the way.

You seem to have a talent for this! Good luck as you progress.

Welcome to the blade forums. Lets put it this way, I'm jealous of your opportunity to work with one of the greats! Those look better than anything I've made! (not that I've made many)

Now it makes sense! Those are some very nice knives Larry. You're an exceptionally lucky guy to be working with Mr. Bump. I expect we'll see good things from you in the future.

I'm really looking forward to this too! Get us some "how-to" on one of your underhammers Bruce! :)

Yeah I am very LUCKY!! Bruce was demonstrating knife making for a bunch of fathers and sons one night and I was able to talk him into teaching me how to make the first knife for my Dad and kept going from there.

Bruce is as good a man as I have ever met. and very patient with me as I learn. I have also enjoyed using his shop, and hope to have my own set up sometime soon. (1 Piece at a time) I didnt mention him in the first post because I had not talked to him about it first and like to offer respect for him and ask first.

I also did not say how long it took for those knives. I think the first one was over a year and a half ago and the second was finished last christmas. I only get once in a while to get over to Bruce's house and then only an hour or two (More in recent weeks.)

The first knife was a ball bearing and forged and heat treated by me. that knife looks good, but does not show the first two blades I attempted to forge. the first was too short the second too thin. (Bruce kept telling me "If your gonna do it, your gonna do it right.") His guidance and ability to keep me focused and on task paid off. The sheath is Leather and I put a 1906 Indian head penny for the snap. (Thanks for the penny Bruce)

the second was ATS 34 Cold Treated and Hollow ground The sheath is Kydex (Hope that is how you spell it)

Below is my third knife
it is S30V cold treated, hollow ground it is 8" overall and has a 3" blade
it is basicly a knife my dad asked me to make him to skinn deer with.

Ok couple of corrections
the 2nd and 3rd knives were cryogenically hardened by Mr. Paul Bos. not cold treated as I stated earlier. He does work for bruce and does a goood job with it.
