New Here - Couple Free Hatchets

There's guys on here with good suggestions on where to order handles from, someone will chime in, I look for vintage handles to re-use. I have found decent new and vintage handles at flea markets and ebay. Depends on the area you live in but some hardware chains carry them. The 2x4 will work on a short handle tool but that's a lot of work unless that is a thing you really enjoy and then it's worth it.

Well, my drill battery decided to die on me. Got a little more to touch up on but so far:

The claw hatchet is my favorite style. So much utility in 1 tool. Rehang it on an 18" riggers axe handle.

I'd buy it if you're not interested in it.

I think I've got it about as far as I can go without shiny metal coming through. One lil spot on the edge was starting to show so I called it quits.

Let me think it over on the claw:) I kinda liked it too but I may. If I do I'll be sure to hit you up first. I recently bought some materials to make a forge and some knife steele, but this has got me wanting to make tomahawks for some reason LOL. But those look like something I shouldn't start with, so knife first :)

Should the edge be sharpened or cleaned up more or is it preferred or best to leave those as is? Probably going to be something that gets put on the wall with the rest of my 1st's

That's a plumb single bevel broad hatchet , it's a common carpentry tool.
Good condition too.
And yes that is just some rougher grinding marks left by the factory, since it likely came painted those marks wouldn't show much not that it hurts anything anyway.

From my experience as long as you dont bear down like crazy you won't be marking up a quality piece of steel like this with a wire wheel.
