Hi guys, I just bought my first Harpy and am quite happy with it. While browsing this forum I noticed Botach has a bad reputation and I wonder who you buy from instead. I've purchased things from Botach before and had no problems - they had the best deal on the Harpy that I could find (using eBay or Froogle) and the knife came quickly and works fine.

Where should I be going instead?

As I related in a previous thread, you are spinning the wheel of fortune with Botach. I had ordered from them for almost 2 years without any problems but last February when I placed an order I waited over two months after repeatedly trying to make contact with them by phone (answering machine), email, even trying their live help line (waited 15 minutes and gave up.) Why my order was never filled I will never know. They are the most difficult people to try to communicate with that I have ever encountered.

That being said, I have had excellent experiences with newgraham.com and gpknives.com. Both are customer responsive and their prices are low.

P.S. Welcome to bladeforums.com and hope you will stay here for many future visits.

Well....I too once unwittingly ordered form Botach, and I received my complete order in a timely manner. Yes the price was good !....but despite my one good personal experience with Botach I would NEVER try to "beat the odds" and order from them again...just too many horror stories from too many folks that have deal with them. Here are some good place to look with solid customer service :
- http://www.agrussell.com/ (perhaps a bit more than other retailers but service is OUTSTANDING !!)
- http://www.cumberlandknifeworks.com/ ( for when you want a slipjoint...remakable service)
- http:/ www.newgraham.com/
- http://www.knivesplus.com/

Others will be along to give you their experience and opinion. By the way....WELCOME TO THE FORUMS !!!!!!!!

-Regards

Thanks guys. I bought my Harpy from Botach and paid $39 plus shipping. Newgraham and Island Security wanted $63 and $69 plus shipping. I haven't had a chance to check out the other links yet- are any of them as cheap as Botach?

Bricktop,
Other sites are more expensive than Botach. However, the higher cost is worth such things as knowing you'll get your order, being able to talk to someone about an order and being able to relax and know you won't get the run around after an order is placed. Personally, I've never ordered from Botach and never will due to the unending horrors I've read here and at other sites. Most of the sites Gramps listed, I've ordered from and have never had a worry. They are more expensive, but definitely worth it.

I've used the company several times for items with very good prices and haven't had a problem whatsoever. The thing I do is call to make sure they have the item in stock. keepem sharp

Moving to TGB&U ...

Note that numerous people have posted that they've called Botach to make sure an item was in stock, been told it was, and it turned out it wasn't.
