NEW here looking for opinions on Surival Knife over 5"! Looking at these 3 below. Not sure if i really want Esee5,6 or bk2. Something a little more custom. I also was looking at the ratmandu by swamprat! My father just gave me a bunch of Randall knives new, but they all 4-5' and not really what i was looking for. Probably going to get rid of them for him.

Personally, I'm real fond of the RMD, but if you have Randalls in hand......I'd have to strongly consider that. ;)

The RMD and GSO 5.1 are possibly the two best knives I own. Both are super comfortable in use, employ excellent steels and heat treat, can take a beating, are more than appropriately priced. Not to mention both are made in the USA and offer excellent warranties. You can't go wrong with either!

I'd use the Randalls, and post pics of them in this thread. :)

Tried couldn't figure it out. Ask for URL instead of finding and uploading the pics!

Beautiful knives. :)
Bark River makes a ton of semi-production knives (a term they use). Good steel and lots of handle material choices. The Survive knives look cool too, but I'd probably end up tweaking the handles on them, it's a bit too symmetrical for me. Koster knives are good, so are JK Handmade knives, Terrio knives, and some others. People seem to love the custom pieces quite a bit.

I have a Ratmandu that is one of my favorite blades of all time. I'm also interested in Survive! Knives, and will end up with one at some point.

Just looked at bark river they have some nice stuff makes it more confusing. I like the RMD but I like jumping and it doesn't have any. I always find myself using the jimping !

Thanks for the pics, those are beautiful. I would still suggest using them as they were your Father's knives.

If you like the jimping, look at the Ontario RD series. 1/4 inch thick, 5160 steel goodness. I have the RD4, they have a series with the RD6 being longer, and the RD9 being a beast.

wouldnt a esse 4 be the same thing?

I had a jericoh seer for a while, I also have another knife from Jasun. While the fit finish and sheath were superb I personally did not care for the chisel grind, it felt like it was trying to turn in my hand while chopping.

The RMD is a solid choice. Also the Scrapyard 511 and 711. Also look at the Becker BK-7. Kinda depends how big you want to go.

I was also looking at RSK Mk II better than the BK10 ? or about the same or lil better. Bk10 $70 RSK Mk II $125. I was going to get one. Is it worth the extra money?

Blade between 5.5-6'. Is RSK Mk II better than the BK10? BK10 looks like something I like over BK2.

To be fair, the BK7 has better features than the BK2. It also has more blade, making the heavy weight worth it. I love the BK2. I do. I have one, and it's just a big dumb chunk of sharpened steel prybar. But I'd never really carry it on a hike or camping trip. It's too heavy, and I have other far lighter knives with blades of the same length that are just as strong.

So, if you're going to carry something that heavy, it should have a good, useable length blade, and so I'd recommend the BK7 over the BK2.

i was thinking about getting this!TOPS Knives, Air Wolfe Fixed Shallow its got a hollow grind almost flat.. It kinda in between an clip and drop point i guess! Anyone have one or experience with one?
