Hi, all, I want this to be for anyone who wants something of HI quality, but of a different design. If you have any ideas, please post them!
My idea, is a long handled kukri. Maybe a 3 foot shaft with a normal Kukri blade. Waddaya think?

Creative ideas are always a good thing:) Some of our most beloved HI products were birthed from threads like these. I'm going to pop this over to the main board since it involves pretty much exclusively HI stuff.

I like your idea:thumbup:. However, keep in mind that I believe Yangdu is limited in what she can receive regarding length.

Good recreations of classic kuks from the past are always interesting.

I'd bet they could make an awesome Froe, too...

I'd like to see more smaller blades. An R-8 with a clip point and narrower handle would be a pretty cool belt knife. And the R-7 sharpfinger is better than the original Schrade version -- nearly 1/4 thick and very durable.

I agree with this. I LOVE my khuks. However, the knives that see the most use in my collection are the smaller ones that can hang on a belt or slip into a pocket. The R-6 and Sarge are two of my favorites:thumbup: I have been sharking for an R-8 for a couple years now. I had a Sharpfinger in college that i loved.

These aren't necessarily NEW designs but they are under-appreciated ones... Nepal's western neighbor, India, has a myriad of blades for war and work, and was as much of a center of learning, healing, war, and statecraft as China was. I'd be impressed and delighted if Himalayan Imports began expanding their Indian repertoire to eventually include pata, khanda, ayda-katti, kastane, marathra sword, etc. and working blades as well if there's a demand for them... I understand if that's not entirely feasible and probably unlikely... but India is an under-appreciated center of culture, just as China is an over-used example of Asian cultural center. Since geographically and culturally Nepal and India are kinda close, it might not be too hard... I dunno, just my thoughts on this

How about the HI Mora?

Actually, HI has a Sgian Dhu available from time to time. I've got 2 of them myself. The blade is very similar to a Mora with a slightly dropped point, and is an exellent personal utility or bushcraft knife.

I disagree, Dr. Thunder, I think you have a very practical design there.
The only problem would be keeping your cutting board intact!

I have been sharking for an R-8 for a couple years now.

The R-8 is a cool knife, but it could be improved with a few modifications to make it more comfortable in the hand and more versatile. The unusual choil on the original R-8 looks like it would chafe the hand and should be removed, the oversized grip should be narrowed to R-6 size, and it should have a clip point like a Cherokee Rose . . . then it would be a great camp knife. Lighter than a Pen Knife but still able to do light chopping as well as skinning and food prep.
